Burning problems

I'm no noob but I just bought a divx standalone for my parents so they could see the stuff I download.... and some .avi xvid releases will not burn to a data dvd. I am completely clueless why I can't burn them.

The latest Juno dvdscr will NOT burn and No Country For Old Men by BaLD will also not burn for me to a data dvd. This is driving me nuts!

I just don't know whys some will burn to data dvd and others will not.

Help please!

i'm guessing (i could be wrong) that i just need to use cd for data on avi files instead of dvd-r discs........

... that might be the issue why some files cannot burn to data dvd-r discs.

I really don't think thats the issue. .avi's (i.e. scene xvids) burn to dvd -r without a problem.

My guess is bad media or bad writer.

I burn using the in built mac osx burning software. But I have used both nti (bundled with acer laptops) and nero on PC's before. I don't think I've ever had an issue with getting a file onto a DVD. They sometimes don't play on my standalone, but thats more of a hardware issue I would guess.

what media do you use? also the name of the software you use to burn the data disc may be helpful. oh and your writer and the speed you burn them at may help. i use the dreaded nero 6 ( its not that bad) and have the new plextor writer. have never had any probs.

I tried to burn No Country for Old Men - BALD version using Nero and MYDVDPlus using Magnavox dvd-r discs... and it fails to write. That's the error message. I also tried another dvd burner I have. I think it must be the file type or the Magnavox discs. But the Magnavox discs will burn other scene .avi files so I'm stumped.

It's love baby!

It won't burn or won't read? I've never had a xvid file not burn to a DVD-R (multiple brands in the past but I currently only use HP Lightscribe 16x DVD-Rs) but I've had a few not read on my older divx player (Phillips DVP642), though that might have been more to user error than anything else. I currently burn the disc with a Samsung lightscirbe drive (model SH-S182M) and use Nero 8 which has so far worked for me perfectly (burning data DVD-Rs and CD-Rs) Have to agree with Linnet, it's most likely bad media or a bad writer.

g-spot it.
look see if it has 2 audio tracks.
lots of new divx comes with 2 or more audio tracks

takes the divx video 6.7 Release player burner to burn them. and a newer than Philips 642 to watch them.
my philips Upscaling 5960 shows and plays from the new divx menus .
divx newest retail 6.8 bundle release will convert to 720p 1080i make menus like a dvd all with divx avi.files. uses 6.8 codec and 6.6 converter. and the player burner 6.7.
it's a bunch of crap.
re encode and pick one audio track if g-spot says this is the case. burn as data.

i use nero v 8 but most hate the complicated program,
not a newbee burner. i have one click burners but most will not separate the avi audio tracks. or even see them.

Philips Upscaling

In the burn process Nero says I had a power calibration error. I do not know what that means.

Using Magnavox dvd-r discs burning the files that's what I get.... then it stops and says ERROR. And the burning process stops.

One Google Finding says

"If you receive a "Power calibration error" error message the cause will be either poor media, poor power, or a defective recorder."

I tested again. I used a cd-r on the same "files" and they burned properly.

AVOID Magnavox DVD-R dics!!!!

That was my problem.

Thank you to all who chimed in. I appreciate it.

pjeer?

I tend to avoid discs that are 'manufactured' by a household brand.. they always seem to be fairly low quality compared to others you can get. Altho in fairness, I bought a few spindles of HP discs (red topped) and I've found them to be pretty decent.

I hate burning optical media.
