As a new visitor to the site, (I like it so far), I'll throw out some comments/feedback. I, personally, wouldn't mind a well placed banner ad or two, and/or a sidebar ad or two. I think you should definitely have a PayPal box, and maybe an Amazon wishlist for people who want to contribute.
I work in web development, and in general, people who just pop in randomly (from a search engine or other link) won't donate anything, unless the found something particularly useful, such as tutorial that just couldn't find anywhere else or something. Websurfers these days are aware that useful sites cost money, and are willing to put up with ads, as long the ads don't drown out the content (or slow the page down to a crawl).
Some no-no's that I would suggest avoiding like the plague:
- pop-ups, pop-unders
- shockwave/flash animations
- porn ads
- annoying flashy animatd gifs
If you do put ads up, try to set the image size attributes, so that the rest of the page can render while the image is downloading. It can really annoy visitors when your page is held up because an ad-server isn't responding. Without image size attributes, the browser has to wait for the ad (or the server timeout) to render the rest of the page.
I hope you can pull it off, the design is really nice, and I think there's a lot of relevant ad material you could put in that would fit in without taking anything away from your content (CD burners, DVD's, audio-video equipment, and other things that visitors like myself are interested in anyway).

Latka;
Just my opinion, which, like all opinions, should be taken with grain of salt.
