DVD Recordable Media Preference?

This may be a dumb question, so I apologize if it is. I've had a DVD writer for a while, but have never burned to a DVD, only CD-Rs.

I'm trying to figure out what would be better for burning DVDRs, DVD-R or DVD+R. I googled it but i seem to be having a hard time finding a direct answer, or is it just a matter of preference?

Thanks

I'd deffo go for minus r, seems to be the most compatible, what with burning console games etc...although i think most dvd players do both

Bow before emogod

I've been using Ritec -R's for quite a while and have never had any problems.

If you're burning something you want to be a 'keeper', stump up a bit more and go for Verbatims.

have to agree here, either Taiyo or Verbatems are archival quality, can't go wrong with either.

Mimzy

Verbatim 16x DVD-R every time. Been making demo discs for others to use for years, that means every kind of player. Never had a single complaint with Verbatim.

Thanks for the suggestions, ive heard good things about Verbatim so ill go with those.

ONE more question though...I was looking on meritline and there are a couple different kinds of Verbatim discs:

Verbatim DataLifePlus
or
Verbatim regular dvd-r

The DataLifePlus is a few extra dollars per 100 discs. I don't care about the few extra $, but I would like these to be "keepers". Is the DataLifePlus the way to go?

Just go with the Verbiatim regular dvd-r.
Ive been using them for years now...I always make 2 copys of something I plan on keeping.....I put 1 up and leave the other 1 out for use.....

If you ever need the file or to share it you always have it there and you always have a back up.... and your comps not a cluster fk

How have they held up? Do they still work after a few years?

Ive read that dvd-r will often times become unreadable after a few years. However, i have a number of crappy old cd-r discs that are at least 6 or 7 years old that i can still read just fine.

Admin?

It can also depend on what you want to read the disks... The XBox360 and Wii for example can be a bit "picky" as to what dye has been used in the disk. If you want a disk that's very compatible and as "hard as nails" you could also look into the TDK Scratchproof disks.

Oh, if you're in the UK then www.svp.co.uk is pretty damned good for blank media, they note what dye is used and the user reviews are quite useful too.
