Problems burning avi/xvid as data files

I am having some problems burning avi/xvid files as data files to a cd-r or dvd-r. I have used a couple of different apps including Nero Burning Rom and after they are completed they tend to skip a few times whicle watching on my dvd player. I used to use Nero Vision and ConvertXtoDVD to burn the avi/xvid files to dvd-r's as image files and it worked great but it was a long process. I recently bought a Divx DVD Player so I thought I would try burning movies as data files to a cd for a 700mb file or a dvd for a 1.36gb file. It is a lot quicker and easier but they all have skipped, some more than others. Is this normal because it is a data file and not an image or should I try a different program. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks.

Admin?

It might sound obvious but... Have you tried burning them at a slower speed?

Rubbery

Cheap media that your player isn't too fond of? Try a different brand maybe.

Try some genuine Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim (Singapore made NOT India).

They're obviously more expensive, but as you can burn 6X 700Mb to one disc, that shouldn't be an issue.

If you still have problems, maybe it's an idea to ensure they're created as XviD,rather than DivX,as some players, including my ahem....*DivX compliant* Pioneer (with no mention of XviD anywhere in the accompanying literature) has played every single XviD I've thrown at it,but fails to even recognise quite a few DivX files, all of which play just fine on the PC.
