it needs to be played of a projector with a inbuilt dvd player which doesnt have xvid playback compatibility. thanks for the suggestion though.
edit - i got the job done in time. thanks people 
edit 2 - if i wanted to say, remove the music of some avi clips and add my own, can avisynth do this? if not, what is good for simple audio editing.
