There's 8 games left, they're 2 points off relegation, so they have a good chance of staying up, but they're fucked in the long term. Their beer loving owner couldn't give two shits about the club, apart from making a profit once he finds a buyer.

I actually did a double bluff April Fools joke with this story. One of my mates at work is a Geordie and a die hard Toon fan. He was well happy when he heard Shearer had taken over, I told him at lunch that it had just been on the radio that this story was an April Fools joke started by Mike Ashley. He had a look of horror on his face for a split second then refused to believe me.

I reckon he will keep them up, I hope he doesn't though, I want to see Newcastle playing down at Leicester next season.

They got rid of that little scrote Wise, so it's not all bad news. Don't think Gazza has anything to do with the set-up, he was begging for tickets off Shearer last I saw.

Clever move by Shearer: they go down and the story will be that the odds were stacked against him; they stay up and he's their 5th messiah this season.

For the 8 games that the totally inexperienced first-time manager is in charge, even if Toon go down, he'll pick up £1m. If they stay up he'll pick up £2m. For 52 days "work".

It's just lucky that Shearer loves the club so much and is desperate to see them do well...imagine how badly Toon could've been fucked in the arse by a no-experience mercenary who was just out to line his own pockets...

Well if he gives them the same boost that Keegan did (1 win in the first eight games) then they are doomed, Pompey are gonna beat them as well. And as for bringing in Dowie he did really well at Palace not.

Considering how long they have been teetering on the edge, rumors of key players leaving, massive injuries and the final straw being the loss (sale) of Given, I can finally its time for them to go down.

Newcastle has always been one of my favs but I can honestly say Owen, Martins and a few others have done nothing but hurt themselves (literally and figuratively) in their time at the club.
