Supreme Movie Overlord

Josh Hartnett as new Superman-Say It isn't so

Going back to my other thread of who would be the best to play Lois opposite Clark Kent as Supes..Apparently we have a new contender as the Man of Steel, and its Josh Hartnett from Pearl Harbor and 40 Days and 40 Nights.

Here is the story:
The Hollywood Reporter says that Josh Hartnett has emerged as the top contender to star in Warner Bros. Pictures' Superman franchise for director Brett Ratner.

The actor screen tested Tuesday, and the trade says Warners president and chief operating officer Alan Horn, production president Jeff Robinov and Ratner were supposed to watch the tape Wednesday night in New York.

No word has come down on the outcome of the reported viewing, but Hartnett's looks and acting ability are said to not be factors as to whether he'd star as the caped crusader. Rather, the negotiation of the deal and the commitment to doing three consecutive features are said to be bigger issues. No other actors are expected to test for the role until an outcome for Hartnett is resolved.

Can you guys tell me of a Better actor to play Man of Steel??

also Doesn't Hollywood Reporter realize its Man of Steel and not Caped Crusader, what a bunch of dorks.. Caped Crusader is The Hulk, No I meant the Green Lantern, No No I meant Captain America...No No..DUHHHHHHHHH Its Batman!!!

Ditto on the Dean Cain thing... but the problem is he's not all that great an actor. Neither is Josh Hartnett or the guy that plays Clark Kent on Smallville, but that guy and Dean Cain would make much better options

Josh Harnett would be much more suited to play Gambit from Xmen. First it's Nicholas Cage, then Brandon Fraser and now Josh Harnett? All stupid picks if you ask me.

Eh, I don't mind Hartnet all that much. I think he's a decent actor (compared to his peers). He just doesn't scream, "Superman" to me though. They could do worse....

i heard that Josh Harnett dropped out like a few weeks ago...

if i were to choose a new superman... it'd be no one... because i think that no one can pull off what Christopher Reeve pulled off. HE was the ULTIMATE superman

but with our luck... Ben Affleck will get the part.

Josh Hartnett would be good if it were a teen movie, and there was no acting involved, and he just stood there, and the bad guys did the right thing, but since superman isn't a teen movie... i saw a big no torwards that

Yes...as did i. I believe. Apparently he did really well in his screen test but i guess they just want a more bankable lead man.

All the names mentioned so far suck but as long as they dont give it to Jon Lovitz or something i'm sure i can live with it

The problem with Dean Cain is that he has allready played Supes. The movie would probably not do good because everyone would think it's the Lois and Clark show. Which got canceled.

He is lean and would have too bulk up. But Hollywood will inject some steroids into his system. He is a possiblity. Would have to change his hair color too.

If I had to choose a new Superman--it would probably be one of three people.

3--Brad Pitt

2--Matt Damon

1-- would probably have to be Leonardo DiCaprio...yes shoot me down..Kill Me...I said it. Leo would make a good supes.

I'd have to go with an unknown as well. Put someone like Pitt or DiCaprio in and it makes it that much harder to suspend disbelief, which I believe is essential to a superhero movie. With Supermans face fully exposed all the time I would always have it in my mind that it's someone playing Superman and not someone being Superman. Wasn't that why they chose Christopher Reeve in the first movie?
My hopes for this flick aren't that high anyway. A re-telling of the origin of Superman directed by Brett Ratner? Thats the best Warner Bros can do? They should have stuck with Wolfgang Peterson....
