Aint it Cool News versus the Evil Pirate Copies

http://www.aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=15389

thanks to enjoysmeat for posting this in the Hulk thread, i thought i'd make another post here (even tho i couldn't really decide where to post this.. maybe boxofhate heh ) so i could feedback on this link on its own.

first of all, lets make it clear.. aint it cool news is a fuckin retarded site. point 28 fonttypes are NOT really needed unless you're so blind from wanking over movie news or something. but apart from the awful layouts, the staff there have this self important thing going on....

i love the way moriarty criticises the fact hulk is out on the net so normal people can watch it freely. in other words , the AICN staff are crying because other people can now see the things THEY have had stolen before for them. remember kids, mr knowles is hardly the best friend of hollywood.

quote:
Shame on you. All of you. Not everyone reading this, of course, since most of you are sane, normal, law-abiding citizens. I’m speaking directly to that percentage of Internet users who simply can’t exhibit a modicum of self-control, who feel the need to pirate films at the absolute first second they possibly can, and specifically... I’m speaking to the person who leaked the workprint of Universal’s HULK in the first place. Shame on you.

yes, shame on him for not delivering it to the AICN office first, so they could do the EXCLUSIVE!! on it. how bout this.. fuck AICN, fuck fatboy knowles, and fuck all these oh-so moral people who hate piracy, yet probably have a few drinks before going driving, or have an illegal cable box running in their home.

quote:
And to those of you who wrote to say, “Hey, don’t blame me... I’m just watching it,” you need to realize that you’re part of the problem.

and as long as the problem pisses off assholes like you, i'm glad to be part of it.

quote:
Now let’s see all the pirates try to justify their position in the talkback. Seriously... let’s see how you explain that what you do isn’t wrong, or you’re not hurting anyone, or the studios have enough money. I look forward to reading how you can tapdance around the basic issue here, which is that you are thieves, and you’re damaging the industry I love with your actions.

indeed. or how about i just say "fuck the industry" oh no! i've said it. how about this - i dont give a fuck if hollywood just stops making films altogether! ah, you weren't expecting that were you. but really, the industry fucks the viewer over, so we fuck over the industry. except we don't get all pissy and crybaby over what they do, we just hit them where it hurts, in the Box Office takings. well thats what they say anyway, because apparently pirate movies lose the industry 10 squillion dollars a year. myself and others have pointed out the utter shortcomings of any MPAA / RIAA report ever so theres no reason to do it again. you see, the do-gooders always seem to think that when we find out its "stealing" or "damaging the industry" that we'll suddenly go "oh jeez, i never knew that!". im not gonna try work out exactly how much damage it causes (nor how much promotion on the same terms, you see the only people who ever admit BOTH good things AND bad happen because of piracy.. you guessed it, the people who AGREE with piracy!) because nobody knows that, least of all the MPAA.

but hey, for every fanboy or website reviewer who gets pissed off for piracy's existance, i get to grin more when i boot up a film i didn't pay for. oh no! but hey, if hollywood has a problem, i'll just sell all my legal dvds (and make a HELLA lot of money from em, cos i have more than a few) and never give them a $ of my money ever again. if everyone did that, they'll see what a REAL loss is like.

and just for the record, in case a few of ya'll missed it - Fuck Aint it Cool News, aka Aint We Hypocritical News. especially Moriarty, who's stupidity (and blatant advertising that you can download the Hulk easily from Kazaa or BitTorrent, nice work genius) has made my morning.

Not to mention, some multi-billion dollar studios who don't want to spend the time or money of protecting their products (in this case a STUDIO workprint which most likely came from an insider) blame us but they use our hard earned tax dollars and waste our money by whining to the feds about piracy and what should be done about it. For every case/operation/etc that the feds do relating to piracy whether it be anti-p2p/ftp/etc for the mpaa or whomever, I feel that I have paid my dues. I wouldn't even have watch half the of films that I've downloaded in an actual theatre so I don't see how I'm taking from their profit because the movies that I do feel worth my $10 (yes, it's that expensive in my area) I will go watch in the theatres.

Some movies that I wouldn't have watched on the regular but downloaded it out of boredom and enjoyed convince me to buy the dvd or watch more films by that director/writer/etc. And the estimates that film companies claim to have lost are so over exaggerated that I'm surprised their heads don't fly off, they count every download as a loss of revenue which isn't the case at all. Or they would compare last years earnings vs. the current year or sequel vs. prequel earnings and other bullcrap, especially in a time like this when recession is going on in the states and lots of lay offs people don't have the extra cash to watch a hollywood hyped up film. Anyway, just my 2 cents... I would go on rambling but I'm tired.

6,4M $/Day baby !

well for one i believe the ol' saying even bad publicity is good publicity applies here. i have said it before and i will say it again, i started going to the theatres ALOT more since i have had access to the movies on the net. in the case of Reloaded (Matrix) its no surprise i have a copy of it and yet i haven't watched it yet but i have seen it in the theatre twice. i am not saying this happens alot but it does happen. in fact just last week i rented the 25th hour DVD even if i do have a kick ass screener on my shelves and i did it for the extras (and the movie really rocks). so i say fuck the MPAA and fuck anyone who says i am a thief and i also give a big ass FUCK YOU to anyone who does not support the "industry" by never throwing a couple bucks there way here and there.

alot of the movies coming out deserve to make some money

In your face!

the totally sad thing is, is that this close minded fool probably doesnt realize hes an idiot. The way he makes it sound is like he has never broken the law, never lied or anything that all the other plebians in the world are guilty of. The only crime that i can see so far is that we live in a time and place where people like this are given a free voice instead of being stoned to death. Lord knows i would love to throw big rocks at him as he reads this story aloud god would that be fun.

anyone else having problems with the link?

and yes, i agree with everything said here. i personally have over 400 vhs, and now about 50 dvds. how am i stealing again? i personally can guarantee the "industry" has gotten more money from me than you average joe shmoe. to me, d/ling a movie is like test driving a car. if after giving it a spin i like it, ill buy it. i may have to settle for a lease (movie ticket), but in the future i can buy it (dvd). do i have movies ive never paid anything on? yup, but you know what, they suck, lol. and movies that suck dont deserve my hard to come by money. thats what this is all about really. now with piracy, they cant over hype a rotten movie and get as much money from it. i mean hell, just look at the comments on new movies on this very site. every good movie is riddled with posts of "GO SEE THIS IN THE THEATER". its funny how that particular voice goes unheard in the media. spiderman was available damn near 2 weeks before it hit theaters, and look how bad it hurt those ticket sales...

honestly, this "war on piracy" is completely worthless. since you dont have to buy anything, there will never be crime associated with it. and if they start doing things right, it only boosts sales. if they were to imbrace this as the marketing giant it could be, they would be better off.

*note to self* Don't get on pHo's bad side

Yeah I agree...fuck you piracy haters...really, if you don't like it? why waste your miserables complaining about it? Isn't that just a total and utter waste of time? I guess they don't see it that way, they say they are doing a public service...well your not, you fucktards, you are just pissing people off, so stop.

Drew McWeeny's sudden outburst against those pesky movie pirates can be explained under one of three reasons:-

1) The fuck-lunker is just upset because those way beneath him on his self-erected pedestal of ego got to see a movie - a big movie at that - before he did.

2) The reviews weren't too hot - although, we'll never know for sure, seeing as they haven't actually posted the full reviews - and THIS DOES NOT COMPUTE has popped up all over the AICN laptop screen.

3) I can't think of a third reason, so instead I'll just draw your attention to Harry Knowles' large breasts, and nod my head towards that slightly less inflated figure of McWeeny, suppling on his hairy man-nips.

AICN constantly posts reviews that quite blatantly come from people watching downloaded movies - note the sudden flourish of A Man Apart (aka Diablo) reviews when a WP of that was released last year. Hell, one of the reviewers even admitted it, if memory serves me correctly.

McWeeny's just worried that, come a year from now, people will be downloading copies of Post-Human, the movie he's got in production at Revolution Studios - a studio where people are clearly unable to spot a Universal Soldier rip-off. Well, I'm sure it'll go STV, so he can console himself that there probably won't be any cams or telesyncs of his masterpiece to muddy its viewing quality.

Uh, I think I may have lost my point somewhere along the way. So to summarise, pHo's right. Ain't It Cool News is shite.

Nice post, fuzzy! I would have registered and added my own 2 cents, but that site is too damn ugly for me to be caught in the rolls of the userbase. I stopped paying attention to AICN a little over a year ago.

I swear, that picture of the site's founder looks like John Candy and Alfred E Neuman (MAD Mag.) had a baby. It's just wrong.

Trudging through the AICN forums related to this story, I came across this link:-

http://scorched-planet.blogspot.com/

Pretty damning evidence that AICN are no better than anyone else, regardless of what they'd like to believe.

i am not, nor was i ever a reader of AICN, but i know many people dislike harry. i think he gave a pretty good statement about the whole thing though, i was pretty impressed.

side note: the comment about security guards having to check him for cameras was quite humurous
