No... You have the A/C on and off button and the numbered dial - so long as the dial aint on 0, you're rosy. To test it, put it on 4 with the A/C button off. Wait. Then turn the A/C on, within minutes it should be dramatically colder - unless it's fucked.
The guy will have a look for the manual, otherwise I'll photograph the fucking dash and draw diagrams on it but my "expert" says the above is all there is to it... It's very basic A/C.
