This film is so exceptionally good that I am compelled to invent a term to articulate the feeling I felt when I experienced it, right now...."FANASPLENDASTIC" This film is so "FANASPLENDASTIC" that I can hardly move.
As for the OPiuM package itself:
- The picture is grainy (but not uncharacteristically for a WP)
- Colour is pretty good
- The sound has a bit of the ol' digital clipping howl, but it's fairly unobtrusive
RATING: 7.3/7.8/9.1
* I did, for whatever reason, experience some playback issues - a mild bit of stuttering and a/v desync. I'm not sure why this happened, as my player doesn't usually perform badly and the burn was completed at 4x's with Fireburner (with few background processes running and the modem disconnected). Someone was complaining that the MPEG encoding was done with the frame-rate set below 24fps. I'm not sure if this would cause these playback problems or not, but in any case, the film was still quite watchable.

While it is unfortunate that the Weinstein posse decided to go for the cash-grab and spread the story out over two films, this should not take away from the brilliance of what is offered in Vol 1.
There is so much good, pure, un-self-conscious entertainment in this film. Quentin has made a film out of films that he loves and has made his film with that same love. It's fun, it's attractively and creatively shot and above all, it is fresh.
...You won't see another film with as much, "fuck it, I just wanna see some crazy, cool, shit up on the screen and I don't give a fat rat's ass 'bout how much it costs, who's gonna see it, or if anyone will like it but me" balls that Tarrantino has shown in making this flick.
Mad propz to Q for lighting a M-80 under the fat-arses of H-Wood and the so-called dissaffected, Vico-dazed, 'Indy film' scene which he helped create...Q shows how it's done: an independent film is independent for reasons other than financing - it is its' originality & unique perspective, KILL BILL V1 has both in spades.
This film begs to be seen in the theatre...so I'm going, I hope the rest of you do too.
