I got the same results as most here. Disk 2 doesn't have an index, but virtualdub fixes that. I recompressed to divx 5.05.

For those of you using tmpgenc 2.5, the fix for the AR (is 2.66, sb 2.35) is to use center - custom size and 730x360 pixels.

In response to an earlier email - They haven't cut any from the movie 130 mins to 90 mins...

130 mins, I believe was supposed to be read 1:30mins (or 90 mins).

No worries.

Here's how to fix the badly coded file in CD2.
----------------------------------------------

Download VirtualDub from my -=[temp]=- directory.
Extract the files to a VirtualDub directory on your local hard drive.
(INSTALLATION IS NOT NECESSARY)
Double-click the VirtualDub.exe file to open the program.
Agree to the information screen to open VirtualDub.
Drag and drop the corr-theintep2.avi file into the open VirtualDub window.
Wait fOR the file to load.
A window will appear with the [!] errors found in the original file.
Click OK to continue.
Click the File menu and choose "Save as AVI" from the list.
Choose a location to save the avi file, perferably on a different drive than the original file. This will enable to VirtualDub decoder/encoder to work faster.
When finished, you'll be able to watch the resulting AVI.

NOTES:
The resulting AVI will be huge ---about 33.8 Gigabytes so make sure there
is enough space on the hard disk drive before starting this conversion.

The following is a copy of the VirtualDub conversion log for reference only.

< VirtualDub Conversion Log >

[i] Starting up: VirtualDub build 18160/release

[*] AVI: Opening file "D:\TEMP\corr-theintep2.avi"

[!] AVI: Index not found or damaged -- reconstructing via file scan.

[!] AVI: Keyframe flag reconstruction was not specified in open options and
the video stream is not a known keyframe-only type. Seeking in the video
stream may be extremely slow.

[*] Beginning dub operation.

[*] Ending operation.

All u need to do is select a compression mode from the video drop down menu as described in the 1st part of nVein's guide and the resulting file should be around 211mb .....

18 minutes!

7.5 / 9 / 7.5

It would be 10 / 9 / 7.5 but I have the avi file that someone mentioned and it's missing 18 minutes (approx) from it's beginning.

Run time is listed as 2hr 8 min (128 min) and this one, presumably the other version as well from the comments I am seeing, is 1 hr 50 min (110 min).

A shame, as the picture is as clear as you could wish for!

Of course you can simply edit the noise from the end and it will not suffer, as this is after the film has ended.

We should all contribut to a SAOSIN sponsorship fund!

Cd2 was missing an index.Since this effects seeking the playback application your using has a hard time decoding video /audio for your viewing without problems.Thats why all the problems at the end.If you chose to use media player classic to play back part 2 you would have noticed that it had to buffer the entire movie to play it back, again; this falls back on the video lacking its index. VirtualDub works because it recreates that index.Videofixer from www.fixvideo.com also work perfectly. Its a two click fix.Open movie with videofixer.Click remove index.Click fix.2 minutes later you have a perfect movie.

just got a copy of the interpreter, but it wasnt the correlation one.

The one i got is called

The.Interpreter.(V.O).[DvDRip].[WwW.LiMiTeDiVx.CoM]

I got via a torrent file

I can send the torrent to verify but only if you ask nicely

::edit

my new opinion of this and other releases of this:

the scene is better of with an svcd ts that actually has the beginning than a "dvd-screener" with no beginning. why was this released if there is no beginning

the video and audio are good enough for me though

from film.focus.uk.com or something like that:

The Interpreter - Film Information
The Interpreter (2005)

The Interpreter Cast: Sean Penn, Nicole Kidman, Catherine Keener, Hugo Speer, Earl Cameron & George Harris
Director: Sydney Pollack
Writer: Charles Randolph, Scott Frank & Steven Zaillian
UK Release: 15 April 2005. Certificate: 12A. Runtime: 100 Mins.

says the runtime is 100 min. which would make it pretty close to the release we have. seems like the movie starts out too fast, but maybe that is how it starts. the runtime on my copy was 109 minutes

This is the copy i have what has happened is it is exact same print , but the subs have been cut of the bottom , they have added a universal intro at begining also a couple of lines from trailer , then film kicks in same as this release , now bottom of screen has been chopped to remove subs , but by doing this has made picture slightly squashed , also end credits removed , sound seems good enough , overall very watchable release

7/8/?

... following on from that...
I've opened the following AVS script in Nandub (virtuadub)

# Created by AVSEdit
# The Doctor 22/04/2005
AVIFileSource("H:\The.Interpreter.READ.NFO.DVDSCR.XViD-Correlation\corr-theintep1.avi")
LanczosResize(720,436,0,0,640,240)
AddBorders(0,70,0,70)

I've checked 'direct stream copy' on the video
so shouldnt this now just resize the original file??

But... it sets about making a 52Gb file!!

Any ideas??

ahh, I have it now

In my nandub, theres only a choice of Divx or Mpeg4v2
I was using Mpeg4v2

Selecting DivX gives normal file sizes

Have resized it to 640:272. And no longer squashed.

(originally was 640:240)

Takes about 50min per cd on my AMD2600
but its worth it.

Only trouble is that on my pc, my new resized copy tends to have thin lines of slight distortion across various parts.
Ive not checked it all the way through or in a TV yet though

Can it not be resized without recoding??

As stated before, VideoFixer was an easy way to fix CD2.

Quality was quite good, so long as you don't mind the sub titles. I don't have a fancy sound system, so I can't say if anything was wrong with the sound (as others had stated). It was understandable and very watchable.

The biggest deal is the missing beginning of the movie. The last couple of minutes of bad video on CD2 is not part of the movie that I'm aware of (then end is the fadeout)....can anyone verify that?

Here's what people seem to miss in the beginning of this release:

The film opens in the desolate desert landscape of Matobo, a fictional country in Africa. The country has obviously suffered. Three men are driving to an arranged meeting. It later becomes clear that the men are Simon Broome, a political activist, opposition leader Xola, and a French photographer, Philippe.

Broome has notebooks, which he places on the back seat of the car. Upon arrival at the designated spot, an abandoned and dilapidated football stadium, Broome and Xola go inside. Three young boys are playing football. One asks the two men if they want to see the bodies. They reply that they do and are shown to an inner room where many bodies are piled up. One of the boys shouts out that someone is coming, and the men go back out into the arena, only to be shot and killed by one of the boys. Upon hearing the shots, Philippe, who has stayed in the jeep, hides in the undergrowth. A limousine arrives and a man (who we later learn to be government henchman Jean Gamba) arrives. Philippe takes photographs of him.

We then move to New York and the United Nations building, where Silvia Broome (Nicole Kidman) works as an interpreter. A dignitary is giving a speech to the General Assembly. In the lobby, it is discovered that a metal detector gate is faulty. As a precaution, further people are stopped from entering the building, tours are halted, and a recess is called. Security staff have to clear the building. Silvia has a bag of personal items in her control room, and, assuming that the evacuation will be brief, decides to leave it there, to save her carrying it downstairs and then all the way back up again. In the event it is several hours before she can return. Going back to the control room that night to retrieve her bag, she overhears a conversation between two people on her headset which frightens her.

(this is where this release starts....with Silvia in the control room)

OK, I've figured out how much of this movie is missing from the release, the actual run time of the .avi file is ony 110 mins, although according to IMDB the run time shoulrd be 128 mins. so it is evident that this realese is missing 18 mins although that also includes credits, and if you have ever sat trough the credits of a movie, tha last at least 10 mins, show thats nearly a whole 10 mins that is missinrg from the begining.
I think I'll wait till someone releases a full copy of the DVDscr without the subs.
Thanks for reading
Quinny
