i live in a county that allows guns. the good old US of A.

hand guns have so many laws against them, it's hard to own one without having it taken away from you. [if you carry it with you.]

if you are stopped by the police it will be taken away from you, you will be charged with carrying a loaded handgun. at least in most states.

now all states have different laws. there is a way to carry a handgun legally , you must get a {permit to carry} to do this.

i have two of them one for my state of SC and another Non-Res NH permit. the NH one makes it legal for me to carry in 23 other states that the SC permit does not. SC only makes you legal in 15 states. now when you apply for a permit you are asking for them to check your background. the state police and the FBI spends three months digging into your past. if they find something you will not only not get your permit,you may be arrested and sent to jail. you will also have to take a handgun class and pass the shooting {target test}

so buying a pistol and being allowed to take it outside your home is two different things.
now a long gun [at least in SC] is legal to carry in your car on the seat if it can be seen and in plain sight.

with the permit to carry [for handguns] they must be concealed, or you lose your permit. {guess they don't want you to scare old lady's.}

now AZ allows anyone to carry a gun [ but a felon] if it is in plain sight. so as you can see ,the laws in the US change with each state you cross into. and you better know each states laws before you cross into them.

i have a rifle with a scope that i use to kill hawks that try and eat my small animals and birds i feed. they can do that just not here. i don't use it to snipe people with.

i carry a pistol to kill people that try to rob and kill me, [ even if they have a knife.] they show it they will be shot in the head. a knife pulled on you seems to scare more than a gun or it does me.

in a land with gun sales public and private. how the hell could you lay down to sleep at night without one yourself?

so guns cause more guns.

everyone out in the wild needs a gun. the only reason for one in a city is to keep others from killing you. and you better be able to show it was they in the wrong trying to rob or kill you and your gun was legal or your looking at life behind bars.

MOST in the US never register their guns or get a permit. they have something that will put them in prison if they ever have to use it. does that make any sense ?

I fully endorse the weak US gun laws... The more of you that are removed from the gene pool the better it is for the rest of the planet in the long run I question the logic of your constitution on the subject though... Sure you have a right to "bare arms" (in the UK that simply means you're allowed to wear a sleeveless T-shirt - something that I'd personally ban) but hasn't anybody bothered to look at the murder statistics for America in the last gazillion years?

I would gladly relinquish my weapons if I had could be guaranteed that firearms would be limited to law enforcement and military.. but this is simply not the case. It's actually gotten to a point where it's impractical to hope for such a change. In Philadelphia, we are in the middle of a murder epidemic that has not been seen since the 80's. Pennslyvania is among the worst states for gun control. By the age of 21 any citizen of the state may walk into a gun shop and walk out with as many guns as their pockets allow, are able to walk around with their guns at their hips, and turn around and sell these guns without taking any record of sale.

The city I grew up in, Camden, is a city in New Jersey (right across the river) which, about two years ago was the worst city to live in America. Amidst some simple changes in New Jersey gun legislation, it's still a shithole, but it's getting progressively better. Gun laws do help curb the violence.

I feel that with things the way that they are I'm happy with having a modest stock of firearms for self defense. I simply would not feel safe in my community without a gun.. and I'm not alone. Guns do beget more guns, but if that's the way it is then I'd rather have one than not. America is a country built around paranoia.. the odds are that I will likely never use my weapons to protect my home, but they do provide a peace of mind while the entire city, it seems, is going insane.

Just my two cents.

Honestly, think about when the law to "bear arms" was made. It made sense BACK then.

Wasn't it Chris Rock who did a standup routine about making bullets $5000 each? So although people get shot, you know the fucker deserved to die if somebody shoved $25000 worth of ammo in him

Not all guns are illegal, just the fun ones.

My dad owns 6 shotguns of various types, one is a pump action that used to be able to hold 6 cartridges. When a new law came in he had to have it restricted to carrying only 3 cartridges, don't really know what the logic behind that daft rule was, maybe they figure that 3 people dying is better than 6 and they forgot that it's just as easy to reload it as it is to cock it.

.22 pistols are still legal I think but you could probably do more damage to someone by throwing pebbles at them .

".22 pistols are still legal I think but you could probably do more damage to someone by throwing pebbles at them ."

not so
this is my weapon of choice , {cheap ,easy to find no signing to buy} a head shot is the way cattle is killed before being butchered.{ most farms around here} poor animal drops with no suffering, but i won't watch it done anymore. also

bad as it sounds a gut shot with this weapon almost always means a slow horrible death . the small cal. does almost no external bleeding .but causes massive internal bleeding .

the result is internal gangrene.because of how hard the wound is to clean up after.

. it is a small cal., but the powder- bullet grain size means a deep wound.

a 25 cal. does not do the damage a 22 does. the bullet does not penetrate like the 22.

i had my brother-in-law shot himself in the upper thigh [dumb ass, drunk and playing with the pistol]. result he cut and clipped a large artery . he was in intensive care for days almost dieing from loss of blood. the artery snapped and the ends separated causing his leg to be slit from below his nut sack almost to his knee to find the ends of it .

Guns

I owned an AR-15 when I was in the Army. I bought it mainly so I could use that for qualifications, then while everyone else was stuck cleaning their M-16s for hours, I'd just turn in my dirty AR-15 and hit the bars. I later sold it, for about what I paid for it, to another soldier who used it for the same reason (laziness).

Since I got out of the Army, I've not seen much reason to buy a gun. If someone breaks into the house, I have all kinds of advantages over them: I know the layout, even in complete darkness, and I know where I keep various items that could be used as weapons in a pinch (fireplace pokers, baseball bats, knives, etc). Odds are, an intruder wouldn't get even one shot at me, and if he were fortunate enough to get one shot off, if he missed, he'd be history before he got off a second shot.

I played a game once with a Special Forces guy during the invasion of Grenada. He thought he was all bad-ass, so we made a bet: whoever could find the other person asleep and put a knife to his throat won a hundred bucks. His problem was, he wasn't committed to winning, or if he was, he wasn't really bright. It took me three days (sleeping on top of buildings, inside concrete tubes, inside an oil tank, and so on) but in the end, he woke up with my knife to his throat and I didn't remove it until he'd handed me the hundred bucks. The best weapon a person has is his mind, and to a lesser degree training, not any gun.

Personally, I think it was stupid to allow every Tom, Dick and Harry to own a gun. However, there are now so many guns in circulation (hundreds of millions, if not billions) that it's now effectively impossible to realistically ban them. So I accept that one of the downsides of living in the U.S., compared to various other more civilized nations, is the fact that in the U.S. your odds are much higher of getting shot, or having a family member get shot. Every country has pluses and minuses. That's one of the minuses for the U.S., and there's not really anything that will change that at this point, whatever the laws might be.

I still see no need to own a gun myself though; I'm plenty dangerous enough without one if there is ever again a time when I need to be dangerous. Guns are the calculators of violence. If you can't handle basic math, a calculator is a useful crutch. Likewise, if you aren't particularly adept at committing acts of violence on others, guns are a useful crutch.

I'm Dutch so don't even know which end of a gun to hold. Is it the pointy end or the blunt end? If it's the blunt end, how do I hand it over to my enemy when he asks me for it? I do know how to wave a white flag though.

And I'm a Brit so if I want to see the business end of a gun first-hand I just need refuse to give a cig to an average teenager or look at somebody "funny". Nowadays I protect myself by violently assaulting all teenagers before they get the chance to kill me, bring it onnnnnnnn motherfuckers!
