That's mostly the charm of it. Once they got something resembling a "proper" budget (about $89 by UK TV standards) they fucked the show up by concentrating too much on visually masturbating Red Dwarf fanboys and ignoring what made it good in the first place such as decent writing and genuinely funny slapstick moments.

No complaints, I agree that it has some charm to it. Heck I'm even surprised that got the go ahead to do this show based on these books, some of the funniest sci-fi comedy books I ever read (atleast 10 times each lol!)
I've got to dig them out again after I finish all 8 seasons.

I feel lucky when can do exactly that. Hopefully a decent rip will be available beginning of next week (all 3 episodes and making off)
Watched all 8 seasons last month and can honestly say I quite enjoyed them enough to burn em to disc so i can pull em out every year or so.

An MPEG2 version of the first new episode is available already but I'm not allowed to say where. Folder name is "RedDwarfToEarthPt1"
It's PAL so you're going to lose a bit of quality when converting to NTSC.
