"Hollywood's Victory Over The Pirate Bay Will Be Short-Lived"

Hollywood may have won a battle, but the war against piracy is far from over. Unauthorized file-sharing will continue (and likely intensify), if not through The Pirate Bay, then through dozens of other near-identical swashbuckling Web sites.

Peter Sunde, and Carl Lundstrom -- say they can't and won't pay the $3.6 million in damages and promised the site will continue running.

Can't remember where i read it but PB is in the top 150 of sites visited.

The money they must make is on the adds.

Depending on how you read it, they don't make any profit (except to go toward buying Sealand).

Are you using an ad-blocker?

Whatever the PB owners say, a site ranking of 106 on Alexa is pulling in some major income from the adds.

If the ludicrous ruling by the Swedish court is applied elsewhere, then certain 'review' sites are playing Russian Roulette with direct links as well.

D'oh! Yeah, I use ABP on FF. I just install it as a matter of course and completely forget that its there. It obviously works a treat

I would imagine the ad revenue is fairly substantial from that sort of ranking.

ABP is fantastic - I'm oblivious to almost all the crap that many see.

Not sure how much they'd get, doubt whether it'd be anywhere near what a 'legitimate' site would get due to many not wanting to associate themselves with 'pirates'.

Admin?

^Yup, just been reading this on The register... BT Mobile customers only and you can call them and request that the site be unblocked. They've blocked it due to kids with phones and porn (or something) and not because you can download the latest Hollywood wankathon from there (although you could argue that it's more important to protect kids from that turgid brainshit than a few pornos)

* Judge in Pirate Bay Case Member of Pro-Copyright Groups

The verdict in the Pirate Bay trial surprised many people, seeing as how many errors the entertainment industry's lawyers had made, and how little understanding they seemed to have of how BitTorrent works. The height of the sentence also surprised many; for sharing just 33 copyrighted items, the four founders were sentenced to one year in jail, and a massive fine of 3.6 million USD. Well, as it turns out, we now know why we were all relatively surprised: the judge in the case, Thomas Norstrom, is member of the same pro-copyright groups as many of the people representing the entertainment industry in the case.

Retrial

The whole trial must be declared a mistrial and redone from scratch."
