FTF rls has slightly lower quality video and lower quality audio. But the WS is a big plus. The CTP release still comes out on top I'm afraid. I have both releases, and I'm not just judging on the sample or the jpegs.

FTF, i must give you guys major props. You're getting a lot better. In time I see raise of quality, and you release the fastest...it sounds weird saying it, but FTF just might come out on top...

CTP don't conform to standards. Ok? its nothing to do with the quality of the player, if i bought a $1000 player it could still have probs with CTPs releases. And its more than likely nothing to dowith a PAL source, if u have a multisync tv, leave the player in PAL mode. Look at the bitrates CTP use. 1246kbit Video, 128kbit audio. Something look odd? yep. they release in XVCD and a lot of players dont fully support this. VCD spec is 1150kbit Video, 224kbit audio. CBR. not VBR.

Im not flaming CTP or anything, cos i play their releases fine, but now u know why their releases look "awesome" for some people, and "lagged" for others. At first I believed FTF should've kept the release internal, now im not so sure. I imagine if 99% of other groups released in non-standard VCD format, they'd be nuked. Centropy have managed to get people to respect them so much this wont happen for them. As i said, i dont care, but whats stoppin everyone else from releasing in XVCD now? then those with Apex and other non-compatable players wont get to see anything properly. Think about it.

SPS yes, ctp release was better than FTF's I'll flame your stupid ass all I want though, the only real reason I prefer any other group over ctp, not becuase quality stinks but they cheat the rules and do xvcd so I can't play them!

FTF sucks

I'm tired of FTF... why?
because ever since i've been on the VCD scene (since 97'), i've been downloading various vcds... a few of the vcds released by HBO (ftf) ALWAYS claimed to be Telesync... they always looked like shit. Even now, the quality is still junk. All thier releases look like cams... u people seen the ICE.AGE cam? now that's good video for a cam! Compare that to this so called "TS Proper". FTF is just mad cause' CTP beat em' in the release time (not to mention CTP's release is wayyy clearer). Recommended: Centropy... all the rescent releases look like DVDs... (LOTR, RE, etc.). Pretty damn good i must say. Centropy and TEG-VCD have always run the scene, and always will. FTF has been around as long as CTP, (just originally titled HBO), but they always (like today) release shit... sure, they're quick... but when releasers take thier time, they can make a damn good release. And, as usual, FTF tries to flame CTP (because they make better vids). Also, i haven;t noticed ANY sound problems mentioned in FTF's .nfo. Another one of FTF's lies...

Centropy have released some amazing films but thier audio on 90% of those releases have been less than the video quality. It seems to me that they dont care about the audio as much as the video. I would gladly loose video quality from a centropy release if they put more effort into thier audio.

I got the centropy release of Res Evil and I thought that it was great. the pic quality was good and the sound quality, was better than alot of thier other releases.

I know the time and effort that goes into any rip of any quality so my respect and thanks always goes out to all the groups

But it is true...
Quality has never, been a virtue (or obviously a care) in FTF's mind when they release. I do understand the time, and effort it takes to make a 1hr.30min movie rip... but still. I wouldn't bother about releasing a low quality version if there was already a better quality one out. And If FTF already knew that CTP had a release, and knew it had better quality, and had time to check out the sound etc, then they should have known that there is no point in releasing this version. Who wants a CAM looking video (all thier releases look VERY blurry), when they can get a higher quality one? And have FTF call it "proper". If it was proper, it'd look better wouldn't it? (From what i've heard, there were no audio problems which FTF stated there were, in the CTP version)

To coin a frase, Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I have seen some suposedly great encodes from groups (FTF and Centropy among them) and some suposedly superior encodes of the same film / TV show by other groups (again, FTF and Centropy among them) and the ones that everyone are raving about are often not that good when you compaire them properly and 90% of the people who are raving about them being good are sheep that havent checked the quality apart from just staring at the screen with speakers blaring or in other cases havent even seen the other encode to be able to make a judgement on it being superior.

If the FTF and the Centropy releases of a film were available to me at the same time and i learned that the FTF release had 20% worse picture quality but the sound wasnt so buzzing or one dimensional as the centropy release then I would gladly get the FTF release and would never look back.

Everyone has thier own views on what makes a good encode and there are enough groups making encodes of the same stuff to fill everyones views so I dont see any problem here
