About the best song, well, Lose Yourself was WAY more popular than the Hands that Built America. Lose Yourself, I believe, became #1 on Billboard, and I don't even think The Hands that Built America was on the Billboard chart, ever! But, I love Eminem & U2, so it really didn't matter to me.
Are you all glad about Chicago winning Best Picture? I thought it was a fun movie, and they put a lot of time into it, I mean, it takes a lot to make a non-singer sing! And Renee was cute in the movie, she has a great personality.
Also, did you guys like the fact that Steve Martin got to host? I thought the beginning was hilarious, with the number of women he's fked, and the "you can be democratic...*30 seconds*...or skinny". He's way better than Whoopi Goldberg.

The Oscars arent about Billboard charts..you want an award where the billboard charts matter go watch the Billboard Awards or the AMA's

Everyone is allowed their opinion like Kay said..I just happen to think Eminem shouldn't have won.. I think musically and talent wise U2 had the edge but they gave it to Eminem cause of the kiddie population

But its over with..nothing can be done about it now

Well...that's not fair to say at all. That pretty much ignores the exceptional lyrics, emotion, and passion in the song...especially after seeing the movie...I liked the song about 100x better. :}

I've never heard a song not only relate to a movie as well as Lose Yourself, but actually catch the ENTIRE theme and essence of it.

Eminem had 2 songs inspired from the movie...Lose Yourself and 8 Mile.
8 Mile(the song) basically sums up the entire movie in 4 minutes, and lose yourself adds the extra emotions and explains the main issue, to me...exceptionally well.

Enough whining or whatever the hell it is I'm doing...but the point is...to say they gave Em the award cuz of the "kiddie population" is baseless and unfair, since you are discrediting ALL the good his song has.

edit: oops he had 3 songs off the movie..i forgot to add Rabbit Run, which is like a mixture of the other two, in it's content :}

Petrocs, Eminem appeals to all sorts of people, just like U2. They're both very very very popular. Although, if i had one of those ballots, I would have probably picked Eminem, just for the sole fact to commemorate him for "8 Mile," because the movie was great, and I probably would have figured Gangs of New York woulda won something else during the course of the night. Unfortunately, it didn't.

i dont understand what was so great about the pianist? it seemed to be the same as every other jewish holocaust movie i've ever seen: jew gets out of camp/ghetto, hides out in a locked room for a while, war ends, jews are liberated. what gives here?

I guess for me personally movies like Schindlers List were very broad in the sense that they were more based on the general subject of the Holocaust and not on one mans struggle for survival through all his pains and sufferings. To me its amazing that he survived as long as he did and was able to be rescued. The atmosphere of Warsaw during the Second World War is well captured and believable and I thought this was possibly the most realistic portrayal of the Holocaust. Adrian Brody did a magnificent job portraying Wladyslaw Szpillman. Thats my opinion on the movie.

I see your point. It just seemed to me that The Pianist was just another version of the same movie that has already been made many times over such as: The Shop on Main Street, Life is Beautiful, The Hiding Place, The Garden of Finzi-Continis, The Diary of Anne Frank, Europa Europa, Jakob the Liar, The Grey Zone, Shoah, As If it was Yesterday, The Boat is Full.

You name some fantastic movies (except Jakob the Liar hehe)
However I dont know how many were actually based on a true story..I see a few that I know were ..but I definately have a fondness for The Pianist because of its reality

U2 and Eminem was a tough choice, When i saw Gangs of New York i didn't notice the song in the movie, i watch the ending credits and all, but the song just doesn't call out. Now don't mistake me for a rap freak, because i own every U2 album released, plus some of their bootlegs to get all the good versions of With or Without You, but the Eminem song, as KayDawg said, was full of emotion and you could basically know the plot of the movie just by listening to it. I think a lot of people pass Eminem off as someone without a lot of talent (like most rappers), but he's one of the few people that can put together a rhyme and have it give you goosebumps from listening to it. Another thing to mention is, how many people think of eminem as a "White Rapper" now? When i think of him, he's just a rapper. I don't remember another person who was considered a legitimate rapper and was white.
