Hmm well u get groups releasing TS/Scr stuff in DivX as it is (as well as the SMR shit) but i wouldn't be too confident on mpeg4/divx players.
Its a VERY volatile codec, and its not a standard. SVCD/VCD stick to certain rules, every week theres a new way of encoding DivX, wether it be OGG Vorbis / AC3 / SBC etc, it changes a LOT. divx3.11 wont play back divx4, divx4 wont playback divx5, so what happens when divx6 comes out and you have a divx5 player? flash upgrades? so do we need a harddisk onboard as well? well, a faster processor is required to decode an MPEG4 stream anyway, due to the high compression, and after you add all that together, that aint a player, thats another computer.
DivX is a basically a hack, nothing "official" is released in it. Most movie houses still release trailers in QT, and we dont see any QT compatable players, so im pretty doubtful that a divx compatable player will ever reach consumer level, and if it does, the codec REALLY has to settle down. but DivX.com sold their asses out, so i can't see that happening.
Never give up hope, but dont be too optimistic. And yeah, i know players are in "development", but they been in development fora long time now, and none of them ever saw daylight.
