This is very weird. I REFUSE to watch this movie on my computer monitor, as I want to see it on my hi res TV, but I'm having a CRAP of a time getting it encoded to DVD. I tried with TMPGEnc Plus, but for some odd reason, after using ISO to extract the mpg files, TMPGEnc Plus won't even ACCEPT CD's 2 and 3. It will ONLY accept CD1 for conversion to DVD format. So instead, I used Mainconcept to convert all 3 CD files from SVCD to DVD format, and after doing THAT, the freakin SOUND is out of sync on CD's 2 and 3! This is REALLY pissing me OFF! There is definitely something WRONG with CD's 2 and 3. So anyways, right now, I'm using Mainconcept to convert all 3 CD's to DVD format, then after that's done, I'm going to use TMPGEnc Plus to re-sync the sound on CD's 2 and 3 by using "audio gap correct" in the source range sub-section of the "advanced" section of the MPEG settings section. And you have to GUESS what the audio gap is by making a 1 minute clip as a test clip to sync the sound on, instead of trying to sync an entire CD, only to find out that it's not QUITE in sync. This is the 1st time I've even bothered with audio syncing a movie, but I REALLY want to see this flick without any glitches.
By the way, for those of you that read this and even know what I'm talking about, I've already figured out the sync setting, and it's 800 ms. Set it to that, and your video and audio will be synced correctly for CD's 2 and 3.
to be honest, this thing needs to be repacked. There are WAY too many mistakes in this release. It's hella good video quality, no doubt about THAT, but to WATCH it, you have to go through hell and high water!
After I've actually SEEN the movie, I'll post an update on the video and video quality, but I figured since I'm not the only one that's having a problem with this release, I'll post what I've done so far in case the info might help someone else out.

UPDATE:...............(8-7-04)

After doing all the above, I was able to finally sit down and watch the entire flick on my DVD player with no glitches. That was the hardest I ever had to work just to watch a movie, but I like that because it made me learn more about how to fix screwed up releases. I'm sure it's only a matter of time before I have to put that knowledge to use again.
Anyways, the video quality of the movie was quite good. Nice and bright when it needed to be. There were some dark scenes, but they were tolerable. The audio was on point, no problems there. The movie itself was ODD. I could not get into it at ALL. I never saw the original, but many people say it was good. If te original is anything like this one, then I don't wanna see it!

Video - 8.5
Audio - 9
Movie - 4

Nice

Always a pleasure to watch another VideoCD release.

Video: 8
Audio: 8
Movie: I agree with a previous poster when he stated that it followed the book much better than the first movie...and for that I also like it a lot better. Denzel will most certainly get an academy nod for this one.

Problems with this movie

If you extract CD2 and CD3 to .mpg using ISOBuster, or copy the *.DAT (mpeg2) files to your had so you can make a DVD version you will find the TMPGENC will report CD2 and CD3 have invalid data streams, even though you can play them on any player.

I think someone needs to repack this movie and upload it again. Its a shame most of us DVD users won't be able to convert this movie to DVD.

This was another great release by VideoCD. It's good to see them back on the scene. The video was good but not the best I've seen from this group. The sound was right on typical for this group. IMO the movie wasn't as good as it was made out to be.

damn why so much trouble to get on DVD? It took me about 15 minutes to set up and about 2 hours to make a dvd at the same time convert to NTSC.

Generally when I run into problems like I have with this one (when trying to make a DVD) I join the clips in EO video and then run them through TMPGenc. There are other methods that I know should work but this is the fastest way I know of. If it doesn't work then I'll try a more complex approach.

here's how to fix it

open in virtualdub and choose a good video codec..choose max quality..itll be huge...no audio..run it...pt 2 was 9 gigs when i was done..then run it through tmgenc choosing the new video and the original audio..i processed to vcd...it was out of sync by exactly -2000 run it thru virtualdub again with audio and fix the sync...-2000..then process again to vcd wth tmpge. do the same thing with cd3 except its out of sync by -1650. good luck..it came out great.

The World is Mine

sigh...

Ok Class open your text books for a lesson in DVD Authouring.

Use Nero Start smart and have all the latest plugins installed.

1.Open Nero Startsmart and go to DVD/Copy and backup.
2.Select make your own video.
3.Click add video files.

Now at this point you can speed up the process by going ahead and extracting the MPG file from the Bin file using Isobuster or you can simply add the bin files.
start out putting the last part of the vcd on first then the second and then the third.
Auto arrange them in order, do this to stop the short pause between cd's.

4.Create Chapters
5.Create custom menu if wanted, if not simply click on more at the bottom and uncheck create menu on disc.
6.Click next create your menu or go to the screen to see your project start.
7.Click next and you will be on burn options and a pop up will show up stating that your project contains more PAL video than NTSC it asks you do you want to keep the files PAL. Click no if you live in the states.
8.Either burn to DVD or Make VOB Files on your hard drive to burn with Nero.

GIve it about 2 1/2 hours depending on your System and you will have a complete NTSC Full DVD.

My System Specs are:
Athlon 64 3000
1 gig of OCZ PC3000 Ram
350 GIG HD
NEC 2500a using hacked firmware 1.07 burning on 4x Ritek G04, or 4x Prodisc's @ 8x.

If the source is in NTSC Simply use SVCD2DVD and burn VOB files with Nero.

You guys make things too hard with all these different programs.

I can't speak for everyone because I use TMPGenc not only for making the video DVD compliant but I usually tweak color, noise and audio settings with it. Can nero do that?

Yes and it also has a few filters to change the quality of the video, Bitrate, aspect ratio and audio of the files.

Since I've already did what I I'll give it try tomorrow for kicks. I know if the 2.5 hour time you spoke will take longer on my system if that's how long it took on your. With mine being an AMD 2400 with 512MB PC2700 RAM. I just know I've had bad result with Nero in the past making VCDs and SVCDs.
