The whole point was that their ability to transform was a disguise, and how on earth is changing into an alien spaceship a disguise on planet earth??

***SPOILER***

Megatron is frozen in ice after crashlanding on earth. He isn't activated till later on in the film (towards the end) and therefore doesn't have chance to take on the shape of an earth vehicle. His 'jet' form I take it is his cybertron form.
