if you want a fairly 'newbie friendly' method go grab canopus procoder2.
works real good.
or learn how to use avisynth + cce.
Ok, there are 3 basic methods for converting PAL to NTSC
the patch method, with no encoding, just opening the ifo of a dvd and telling it it's ntsc not pal.
This works in some stand alones, and is the basis for most of the stand alones that play both ntsc and pal.
There is the frame rate conversion, which, when you stop and think about it, kills it.
You are taking a 25 fps file and converting to 23 or 29 fps. Frames are being removed/added
Movies on PAL DVDs play back 4% faster than their NTSC counterparts. The great majority of people will never notice this, but for a small minority, this is an intolerable artefact.
Theres also the "3 -2 pull down" method
The net effect of this is that any image pan is not smooth, but takes place in a series of uneven steps, an artefact known as judder. As with PAL's 4% speed-up, the great majority of people will never notice this artefact, but for a small minority, this is intolerable. Personally, I find this artefact all but intolerable and find it very hard to watch a movie on an NTSC DVD because of it.
Simply, some might not notice the problems, others will. The fact of the matter, no matter what method you use, you are losing quality on that movie.
And a fast paced, action movie like this one, I can't even attempt to watch it like that, I just stick with my s-video out and let VLC deal with it.
quote: PAL being 25 FPS closest framerate to actual film produces a way better quality picture than NTSC ever would.. and as for ctp, they used french CANADIAN sources im pretty certain. It's not nice to bitch about FREE releases.
Yup, and guess what, I'm canadian, and canada uses NTSC. As stated a billion times before, to the point that i'm ricking being banned.
I NEVER COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS RELEASE. I complained about the lack of info in their NFO, dats it.
When the majority of releases have been NTSC, it would be common sense to atleast put that in your nfo, NTSC or PAL. The time it takes the groups to put their "fuck yous" and such, they coulda plopped PAL in there and saved alot of people wasted discs.
As I stated a few times here, I'd PREFER PAL, much higher quality, and for the most part, always play and look better. (with the exception of a few I've downloaded)
All I asked was to be informed, seeing as all groups include an NFO with their release, only fitting to put some actualy INFO in it.
/end rant , ignoring any further posts on this subject as for people apparently can't read the post they are trying to flame
