So, pronunciation of Scali would be "Scarly" in usual European parlance. Scallywag is the official term. Nobody meant Scarliwag since the separation of the term Scali and Wag was only to define the term Wag separately. Therefore, Jingo and Ave were right.

In Australia since I can remember, its been scallywag......one word to describe a "rascal" or of similar character.
