Master and Commander Sequel?

Source: The Hollywood News

The Hollywood News talked to "The Lord of the Rings" actor Billy Boyd, who starred with Russell Crowe and and Paul Bettany in director Peter Weir's Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World. He says a sequel is possibly still in the works:

There are like 21 books of Master and Commander, and Fox already own the ship so a lot of people, I think were confused as to why there hasn't been a sequel yet. We'll just have to wait and see. There is talk of it and Peter Weir said that I won't die in the next one, but he said I will die in the third one. So I've still got another movie, and then I've got a death scene! So great! I do hope they make some more as I had great fun making that film.

The first film cost $150 million to make and collected $210.5 million worldwide.

DiCaprio Seeks The Blood Diamond

Source: Variety

Leonardo DiCaprio is in talks to make Warner Bros. dramatic thriller The Blood Diamond his next picture, says Variety. Ed Zwick (The Last Samurai), who will direct, rewrote the film with Marshall Herskovitz.

The African adventure is set in Sierra Leone circa 1999, a time when the nation was in the midst of a horrific civil war. DiCaprio would play the role of a smuggler who specializes in the sale of "blood diamonds," also known as "conflict diamonds" -- the precious stones used to finance rebellions, privateers and terrorists.

When the smuggler encounters an indigenous Mende farmer whose young son has disappeared into the RUF's army of child soldiers, the two men's fates become linked.

The studio is hoping to shoot "Diamond" early next year, so that DiCaprio can turn to another Warners project, For Whom the Bell Tolls. He is currently filming Martin Scorsese's The Departed.

Dallas

Source: Cool Cucumber

Scooper 'Cool Cucumber' sent in this unconfirmed bit about possible casting for the Dallas feature, to be directed by Robert Luketic at Regency Enterprises. Robert Harling (Steel Magnolias) wrote the screenplay.

John Travolta was on The Big Breaky here on TV this morning. He did some stuff for Live-8. Talked mainly about that, but also some of his movies.

He's just done a movie with James Gandolfini called "Lonely Hearts" and he hinted that he may be playing 'A man with a mighty big hat' in a "Dallas" movie. I guess he just confirmed rumors that he's playing JR in the Dallas flick? They didn't push for anymore, just made an "ooohh" sound.

The 1978-91 series centered on the Ewings, a wealty Texas family whose lives revolve around oil, family and power. The CBS drama featured such talent as Larry Hagman as J.R. Ewing, Patrick Duffy as Bobby Ewing, Linda Gray as Sue Ellen Shepard Ewing, Victoria Principal as Pamela Barnes Ewing, and many more.

Matt Damon to Play Lance Armstrong?

.S. Cyclist Lance Armstrong is about to win his seventh straight Tour de France on Sunday before he retires from the sport. His story, of an amazing comeback from cancer, is certainly worthy of the big-screen treatment, and Armstrong tells Men's Journal he has a possible candidate in mind to play him in a biopic.

"I've had the chance to get to know Matt Damon. He is a fan of cycling and has a connection to cancer. He has even expressed an interest in the role," Armstrong said in the magazine.

Armstrong easily retained his overall lead after stage 18 on Thursday, which was won by Spain's Marcos Serrano. Armstrong's lead over Ivan Basso, his closest challenger, remained unchanged at 2 minutes and 46 seconds.

Looking back, Lance entered 1996 as the No. 1 ranked cyclist in the world, competed as a member of the U.S. Cycling Team in the Atlanta Summer Olympic Games, and signed a contract with the French-based Cofidis racing team.

While seemingly at the top of his game, he was literally forced off his bike in excruciating pain. In early October, his doctor gave him the stunning news that he had cancer. And his life changed forever.

Tests revealed advanced testicular cancer that had spread to his lungs and his brain. Though his chances for his recovery were far less than 50-50, a frightened yet determined Lance began an aggressive form of chemotherapy.

With the advice of specialists, he tried a course of treatment that gave him a chance for a full recovery with less danger of losing lung capacity as a side effect. Remarkably, the chemotherapy began to work, and Lance gradually allowed his thoughts to return to racing.

After his miraculous recovery, Armstrong started the 1999 Tour de France on the United States Postal Service team and won the event. He went on to win five more consecutive years. This year his team is sponsored by the Discovery Channel.

In 1997, Lance also founded the Lance Armstrong Foundation, which provides the practical information and tools people living with cancer need to live strong (LiveStrong.org).

9 to 5 sequel

It's not that first comeback role that's important - but the second.

Jane Fonda, who recently re-rocked the box office with the hit "Monster-In-Law", has agreed to star in the recently mooted "9 to 5" sequel.

"I'd love to. It should be called 24/7", the actress tells The Sun. "We'd like it to happen but we haven't been able to get a script yet. It would be fun to see what happened to these three characters 30 years later."

Co-star Dolly Parton said: "I've told them they'd better get on it before they have to call it the good, the bad, and the ugly because we ain't getting any prettier!"

Fellow co-star Lily Tomlin added: "I think it's very possible that we could do it. I certainly wouldn't mind."

The original film starred Jane, Dolly Parton and Lily Tomlin as PAs who overthrow their chauvinistic boss, turning his troubled business around overnight.

Craven for more Krueger?

Though he walked away from the franchise several years ago, Wes Craven told IGN FilmForce that he's not ruling out a reunion with Freddy Krueger.

"You know, anything is possible. But it would have to be some terrific concept and some special moment in my career."

Craven's last teaming with the Christmas-jumper wearing freak was "Wes Craven's New Nightmare", which although winning high praise, did nothing at the box office.

Rumour has it that the next "Elm Street" film will again be a two-hander with "Friday the 13th" villain Jason, though there are whispers of an "Elm Street" prequel.

Another War of the Roses?

With most of the middle-aged hunk roles going to either Tom Cruise or Tom Hanks, Kirk's oldest is looking to his back catalogue for prospective future employment.

Michael Douglas is considering a remake of his 1989 fave, "War of the Roses", says Sky News, with the cradle-snatcher believing it to be a good fit for him and wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Zeta-Jones tells the site that, "I like working with Michael, as I bounce off him really well and it adds another dimension to audiences as we really are married."

Apparently the updated "War of the Roses" would be retooled a tad.

"It's one of my all-time favourite movies and we both have ideas on how the script can be explored in a new direction. We hope to get the project up and running next spring".

Douglas isn't known for doing sequels. He had plans to do a second sequel to "Romancing the Stone" at one stage, but that crashed and burned, and passed several times on a sequel to "Basic Instinct 2", which was consequently made without him.

Spy Kids 4 getting a toon-up?

One-Man Movie Studio Robert Rodriguez might be planning another "Spy Kids" movie - but stars Alexa Vega and Daryl Sabara needn't wait for a call, they won't be required.

Talking to Moviehole today, the "Sin City" helmer says the fourth film in the franchise is likely to be animated.

"We might do an animated, straight-to-DVD thing but that would be it", says Rodriguez, adding "Couldn't do a live action thing – kids are too big".

A few films have gone the animated route when it comes to a sequel - most recently, Warner's "Kangaroo Jack 2 : G'Day USA", done that way because, well, it was far cheaper.

Next, Rodriguez is doing a sequel to "Sin City", then "Grind House", which he aims to play like an old 70's drive-in movie, with Quentin Tarantino. And will QT have an acting role in that too?

"He said if I had a part for him, he'd love to do it. He loves to work with people, like he did with me on 'From Dusk Till Dawn,' something different from what he normally does."

I think it could be good however due to the subject matter of the reasons why he was burned etc not sure it will be a big hit. Unless they skip that part and start from burning.

Is Mel Gibson the new J.R Ewing?

Sounds like some offers have started to go out in little yellow envelopes from the "Dallas" production office.

According to Variety, some big names are being sought for the lead roles in the film version of the popular TV series, being directed by Australia's Robert Luketic.

Mel Gibson, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Jane Fonda are just three of the actors close to scoring roles in the soapy turned silver-screen blockbuster.

Up for the role of J.R Ewing are Kevin Costner, Tommy Lee Jones and the abovementioned Gibson. Gibson, whose a little picky these days with what he does, is one of the only guns not to have shown reluctance, so sounds like he's in with a chance.

Catherine Zeta-Jones is the leading candidate to play Sue-Ellen, though Demi Moore and Jennifer Lopez are also semi-interested in the role.

Owen Wilson and Matthew McConaughey are being eyeballed to play the role of Bobby Ewing.

For the role of Pamela - Drew Barrymore and Reese Witherspoon are the faves, whilst for Lucy, Lindsay Lohan, Jessica Simpson and Mandy Moore are believed to be on the wish-list.

Jane Fonda is being touted for the role of Miss Ellie. Considering director Luketic worked well with Fonda on the recent "Monster-In-Law", there's a good chance she'll sign something soon in this regard.

E! Online's Anderson Jones had the word:

He's Mean, Green...and Slow? I hear execs at Universal are turning green this week after a not so incredible screening of Hulk. The studio's top brass was practically speechless. Apparently, director Ang Lee has turned in a melodramatic take on the comic book with an emphasis on drama--as in, really long and boring. Uh-oh. The suits concerns are way beyond the fanboy fears that the CGI big guy will look cheesy.

Still, isn't this what Lee promised from the get-go? He has always said Hulk would be an examination of our repressed selves and the release of unchecked rage--an emotion Bruce Banner expresses by turning into a 15-foot mighty green giant. I always expected the story to be a psychological journey--it's about the Hulk inside all of us. Still, one exec says, "It's like he combined The Ice Storm with Shrek." Yikes. Regardless, I can't wait.

I just don't dig the animated hulk, and with edward norton jr. sporting the rage I don't see this doing too well either. Thank god for ironman and other real superhero movies coming out. I read on comingsoon.net as well about the timberlake piece. He would be perfect, and could also play a mean eddie haskel in a beaver movie as well. Can't wait for the new superhero films coming. Anyone have any more info on the thor film supposed to be coming out?

Christian Bale to Star in Terminator Salvation?
Source: Ain't It Cool News November 21, 2007

Christian Bale (The Dark Knight, Batman Begins) has been cast as John Connor in Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins, says Ain't It Cool News.

McG is directing the summer 2009 release, which has an early 2008 production start and seeks to reinvent the cyborg saga with a storyline to be told over a three-movie span. Warner Bros. will distribute domestically.

The screenplay was written by Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines duo John Brancato and Michael Ferris.

The film is set in the future, in a full-scale war between Skynet and humankind.

independent film rumor

I just watched this new comedy called "Sharp as Marbles". I guess it went straight to dvd because I don't remember hearing about it in theatres. It was awesome! I read a rumor online that it was filmed in twelve days for $200,000. This was from a fairly accurate movie site!
This movie was awesome - better than half the multimillion dollar movies Hollywood keeps releasing. If I didn't read the details, I never would have guessed it was a low budget film!
