wants a new nickname

Saw Appleseed (2004) last night... simply amazing!

Was a very neat CG movie Alright, it doesn't have that Final Fantasy movie CG quality, but still got very good sequences

Story is a bit cliche though but music soundtrack was damn groovy

Do you have any special skills?

i recently watched Kung Fu Hustle aka Gong Fu and i gotta say its a must-see.
one of the best action comedies ever. the humor is slapstick/comic like but really funny at some times and the fighting scene are nearly the best ive ever seen.

yesterday i stumbled over Ab-Normal Beauty which is described as the pang brothers version of "8mm" with a much sicker touch. will tell you if this is any good.

i've been on a stephen chow quest for a while. check out 'the king of comedy', i think it's his funniest by far. he plays a (crap) movie extra in the present day, so there isn't any of the wirework or mad kungfu from his other movies, but it does have cecilia cheung and karen mok, so the eye candy is pleasant as well.

ab-normal beauty is OK, but not oxide's best movie.

watched '100 days with mr arrogant' a coupla days ago. limp and pale. not recommended unless you're a 14yr old girl.

finally got round to seeing 'my wife is a gangster 2'. was OK. highly recommend the original, loved that movie. the sequel is probably only for people who liked the original a lot.

'the eagles shooting heroes', 'last life in the universe' and 'beautiful boxer' are the next asian movies on my list.

Yep, Kung Fu Hustle was great. 8/10

I also watched Ong Bak a couple days ago, which has some truly fantastic Thai martial arts in it ... but is an incredibly boring flick nonetheless. I didn't even burn the thing; as cool as the martial arts were, I just never want to sit through that plot again in order to see them. 6/10

Long Time Lurker

recently watched 'the kung fu cult master' starring jet li from 1993. This gotta be one of the craziest kung fu movies i have seen in a looong time, so 0ld sk00l...if you aint seen it, watch it and post back.

Also watched the tv type episodes of kung fu master n revenge of kung fu master starring donnie yen. They were OK, just went on for fooking ages.

Unpaid Intern

Well, I just got round to watching "Taegukgi", and all I can say is that it was utterly brilliant.

http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0386064/

Apparently done on a budget of just $13million, it is amazing how far they make the money stretch. Apart from the effects looking a bit unrealistic towards the end, the whole film is executed superbly, and ends up being a very emotionally charged portrayal of warfare. This probably stands alongside Saving Private Ryan as the best war film I have EVER seen.

Everyone should watch it, right now. If only I could find somewhere to purchase the DVD now though LOL.

My Rating: 10/10

That's because they don't hire knobs like Julia Roberts or Tom Cruise.

I've just scored the full boxset of The Yakuza Papers (Fukasaku's based on some true events, but 'Godfather' inspired stylistically) - 5 movies and full extras. Got another 6 of his greats as well ...but was let down on Yagfu Conspiracy, never mind I'll find it sooner or later

Also laid my grubby little mitts on Miike's MPD TV shows as well as his Black Society Trilogy. Loadsa asian classics as well including Lady Snowblood, High and Low, Samurai pirate, Samurai Assassin, some great King Hu (A Touch Of Zen, Dragon Gate Inn). Got some more recent 'classics' as well: Pornostar, Xiao Wu, Devils on the Doorstep, and loads more

So, I'm guessing I don't need recommendations for viewing for a while, but keep posting, don't allow this thread to die: I wanna know more about what's worth seeing (specially of the newer movies).

Do you have any special skills?

i just watched Izo and all i can say is "omfg watch this one". if you've seen the trailer and thought it shows all the goodies, ur wrong. its nearly a non stop 140 min bloodshed, very twisted and not for the squeamish.
will post my comments on Inugami , Shikoku , Unborn but forgotten and The Scarlet Letter

Have em all except Musa, only one I watched tho is Returner which is a bit "meh". Kinda prehyped then found out to be a bit average, but its not too bad.

The version of Friend I have is lovely, metal tin. 2046 I'm saving till I've got In The Mood For Love (which bloody got shown at a cinema near me a few weeks ago but I couldn't go. hmph!)

Always 1 Month Behind

finally got the chance to watch Bin-jip (3-Iron). it's such a slow paced movie. even though main character doesn't even talk once, i found it interesting.
I give it a 3/5.

i liked it...but i'm not really sure i got it.... ...really annoying cos i'm usually the one that gets it and explains it to the g/f LOL but 3-iron left me confused

***SPOILERS***

so, did he actually die in prison? is that how he became 'invisible'?

i know there's something spiritual and deep hiding in there...but there are so many mixed messages that i can't get a grip on what it may be...

did he intentionally set the gun to be able to fire (when the kid shoots his mum)? how does that equate to his grief at hurting(/killing?) the woman in the car with the golfball?

and the boxer...it appeared that he got 'revenge' on the boxer...but what exactly did the boxer do wrong (to warrant revenge)?

or maybe there just isn't anything deeper...and it's just an unconnected sequence of events...???

yours, confused,

baha
