6/24/98 Redeemable to Produce Bob Gale's "Interstate 60"
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, PLEASE:
REDEEMABLE FEATURES TO PRODUCE BOB GALE’S "INTERSTATE 60"
New York, NY -- June 24, 1998 -- New York based production company Redeemable Features has entered into an agreement to produce "Interstate 60," " writer/director Bob Gale’s original screenplay, it was announced today by Redeemable Features partners Ira Deutchman, Peter Newman and Greg Johnson. A production date for the picture is yet to be determined.
Best-known as co-writer/co-producer of "Used Cars," "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" and the "Back to the Future" series, "Interstate 60" marks Gale’s feature film directorial debut. "Interstate 60" is an off-beat road movie about a young man’s search for answers along a highway that doesn’t exist on any map, an odyssey that puts him together with numerous off-the-wall characters in some very unusual towns. Gale describes the film as "a trip through life with the volume turned up to 20." Long-time collaborator Christopher Lloyd has already expressed interest in one of the key roles.
Redeemable partner Peter Newman said of the deal "We are very excited about this project. As much as Bob tapped into the pulse of the society of the ‘80s with the "Back to the Future" films, this film will tap into what people are thinking and feeling as we approach the new millennium. The script also has many colorful characters that will attract a high profile cast."
Redeemable partner Ira Deutchman added, "I’ve known Bob for over twenty-five years. He is one of my heroes in this business and it is a particular pleasure that we are able to work with him now."
Gale responded, "I feel that Redeemable Features is the right company for this film. Ira, Peter and Greg have terrific credentials individually and as a team. I am also looking forward to working outside of the studio system for a change."
Bob Gale is represented by Dan Aloni and Jeremy Zimmer at United Talent Agency and his attorney Harold Brown at Gang, Tyre, Ramer and Brown.
One of the busiest independent film companies in New York, Redeemable Features has several films gearing up for release: Sarah Kernochan’s "Strike," starring Kirsten Dunst, Gaby Hoffman and Lynn Redgrave, to be released by Miramax in August; Mark Christopher’s "54," starring Mike Myers, to be released by Miramax; Nancy Savoca’s "24 Hour Woman" in conjunction with The Shooting Gallery; and Paul Auster’s "Lulu on the Bridge," starring Harvey Keitel and Mira Sorvino. They are in post-production on Adam Davidson’s "Way Past Cool" based on the novel by Jess Mowry and are in pre-production on Victor Levin’s "The Successor," Alan Rudolph’s "Trixie" which will star Anne Heche, and several others including Nancy Savoca’s Janis Joplin film with Lili Taylor as Joplin.
