Start a How-To Section.

Not a where to find this, or where is the best place for that thing, but a section for new people to find commonly asked questions.

Like

"How-to extract an mpeg from tar, rar, bin/cue"
"How-to use PAR files"
"How-to set up Mirc"
"How-to setup the Xvid codec"

etc, etc, etc....

Maybe even make it a contest, who can write the best one for a given subject?

I am suggesting this because of all the duplicate posts wasting space.

watch this space

in the uk they are changing the laws before it was not illegal to inform they how to do things like crack dvd coding etc but they are about to change the laws.to make it illegal to help people do things that could contravene copyright, proberly also aything that is involved in the creation/distribution of warez.bit vauge i'm sorry. but the point is that if you have a how too section you have to watch what you post about as this new law is already law in the states.i
will edit this post and add anything relevent when i remember where i saw it.plus it might make newbies think they can post requests in this section for stuff the moderators ban people for.
p.s
the examples you gave are not illegal but you might see requests that are

I understand what you are saying.

Just thought I would ask though.

Maybe lock the threads posted there? And only allow admin posting?

And nothing illegal, just basic stuff that can be referred or linked to.

Just though of a another How-to...

"How-To use the 'Search' button"

Super, Duper Moderator

Well, I am all for a How-To section, but there's so many other sites out there that do that. It would just be a tad redundent; here's some links to other sites:

I don't mean how-to's for encoding. Just basic, scene related stuff that is always asked about.

I just scoured through the sites you mentioned and doom9 had nothing I could find easily, vcdhelp barely mentioned them in passing.

watch this space

if you studied this site you will have seen that this is covered .i know you will say you have to request imfo but to cover all the possible topics would take a lot of work from admin and is better tackled in some cases on a one on one way.as not all methords work for everyone.if you just want reference material ,well there are plenty of places to try looking.if you are struggling try a fwew search engines.
