lord of the rings box office

given that two towers did better at the box office then the fellowship, do you think that return of the king will make more or less money then the two towers? or even the fellowship?

I'd bet more.. in interviews the cast and crew seem to think it's going to be the best out of the 3. TTT just overtook FOTR as the #10 box office champ of all time...

reviewing the numbers, The Two Towers didn't make more worldwide. According to The-Numbers.com

Fellowship of the Ring
Released in US December 19, 2001
Total US Gross $313,364,114
US Distributor New Line
Production Budget $109,000,000
Worldwide Gross $860,300,000

The Two Towers
Released in US December 18, 2002
Total US Gross $325,249,000
US Distributor New Line
Production Budget $94,000,000
Worldwide Gross $740,000,000

I guess it'll pull in more than the two towers since it's a conclusion. Everyone HAS to see the ending, right?

Why do I not feel bad about watching the DVD screener instead of going to the movie.

Hollywood is out of control.

The friends actors are taking home $144,000,000 between them FOR ONE SEASON! And The lord of the rings trilogy has taken in Over 1 and a half billion dollars?

IT'S ONLY ENTERTAINMENT FOR PETE'S SAKE!

"But if everyone downloaded instead of going to the theatre, then there wouldn't be any movies to watch etc. etc."
I have gone to movies in the past and bought DVD's too, but no more. Seeing stats like that makes me sick.

"But movies are meant to be seen on the big screen."
The theatre in my town sucks. I would never pay to watch a movie there, my home theater set up is much better. Plus the movies they run have been shown for at least a month everywhere else.

"Well you're just a thieving bastard who'll be smoking a turd in purgatory when it's all said and done"
Perhaps, but I ain't giving Hollywood any more of my Cash.

poor rationalization. The same as saying "The Mona Lisa costs too much, let's just steal it." It's not only entertainment it's art and movies should ALWAYS be seen in the theatres if you know they're going to be good. Watch the DVD Screener, but if you liked it, go show your support as a way of telling the crew that made the movie "you've done a good job". If everyone followed your rationalizations there wouldn't be a movie industry. Thank god, lot's of people like Movie-God and phO have the abillity to just download, but go to the theatres and watch them the way they're meant to be.

The Return of the King will definitely make more money than Fellowship of the Ring and Two Towers combine. I think we finally have a moive this year that will sink the Titanic into second place.

Actually, Lord of the Ring already made more money than Titanic since its still "ONE" moive, just that its so long that they had to split the moive into three parts. So the sum of Fellowship and Two Towers made over $600 millions in the US beating out James Cameron's fable Titanic.

It's love baby!

More. Its a simple fact of numbers. People who rented LOTR FOTR, and enjoyed it, most likely went and saw TT, which increased the number of movie box office sales for TT, and in turn, the holdouts that have not seen either, or will rent TT, will most likely go and see it in the theatre.

Besides, this is the final chapter of the trilogy, so anyone who has seen the first two has to go see this!
