Review: Head of State (2003) w/Chris Rock and Bernie Mac
When it comes to making comedies, none better than I think than Chris Rock, who makes his directorial debut with his movie Head of State.
Rock plays a political nobody named Mays Gilliam, he is about the be kicked out of his current job as neighbor alderman, but when his political parties front runner dies, they want him to run for President of the United States, and thats when the fun truly begins as Rock does a good job with the silly script that he also co-wrote.
Despite its inane plot, I honestly liked the movie despite seeing a bunch of rich folks try to dance to rap music.
I choose not to give the plot away, but seeing Bernie Mac in this movie gives it another plus. He plays Rock's brother who becomes his running mate, Robin Givens, yes I said Robin Givens has a good role playing Rock's ex-girlfriend who wants to get back together with him, and Tamala Jones, who believes in the political nobody.
I am giving this movie a marginal thumbs up, even though I truly did like the movie.
I would check out another movie similar to this, called The Distinguished Gentleman w/Eddie Murphy if you want similar laughs.
Head of State is rated PG13 for language, sexuality, and some drug use.
Head of State opens in theatres March 28, 2003
My rating: a 7 out of 10
