Hello, I've recently purchased a Sony DVP-NS325 and its pretty nice, especially for the price. It decodes just about every format with the exclusion of MPEG4 and WMA. I've been testing it lately and it seems that it doesn't like to decode vcds and svcds with a DV source. I.E. TS's and even a dvd rip that was originally filmed in DV rather than normal film camera's.... Now i'm trying to decide if it's truely the DV source or the processes used to make the files.... the source seems far fetched since they are all converted to the MPEG streams anyways and they decode fine in vcd and svcd, hence me leaning towards the processes used to make the files. When decoding a ts or the dvd rip that was done originally in DV i get transparent green over most of the frame from the top towards the middle of the screen then it would show normal picture followed by more transparent green on a portion of the bottom of the frame.... I can see the picture under the green but obviously its not decoding properly. So if anyone might have any ideas I'd love to hear it

well i had a hunch as to why i was getting the proper decoding.... i feel kinda dumb now too, now that i realize what the problem was......

all the ts's that i had just about were PAL at 25 frames a second and with the PAL res, hence my dvd player wont decode the pal frames and fix them on the fly. so that was my problem. the dvd rip i was referring too was also pal... a rip of 28 days later. so it had nothign to do with the digital source as i didnt think it did... because technically speaking no matter what source it was... it wouldnt effect what the file was turned into anyways... that being the vcd/svcds... so this is basically a follow up post to anyone with the same problem.... thats whats causing the impropper decoding.

looks like you sorted yourself out pretty well. Most of the dirt-cheapo "made in china" players (Mintek, Apex, Hiteker, Digix, Norcent, etc.) are made in the same place by a single company and will be available for sale all over the world by different name.. which means almost every one of them can be made Region-Free and will decode and auto-switch from PAL to NTSC or from NTSC to PAL with no problems. As most of these type players run from $30 - $70 you really can't lose. Just make sure you hit up http://www.dvdrhelp.com and check out their forums for the model you're looking at before you make a purchase.

That Sony sounds like a good model. I've got a couple dvd players myself.. a cheapo for 'everything' and a nice Toshiba that I use for my retail dvd's.
