Oh.. I'm from Old Blighty so i cant help ya. I hear you Yanks banging on about Apex dvd players. They apparently play everything...

Check out dvdrhelp like memoman and do a search on Apex in the dvd section.

Good Luck

maybe you know something i dont

404, I'm in good Ol' Blighty myself and I am looking to purchase a new DVD player. I'm a student and on a budget of about £100 but preferably less. I have an idea of some players I wanna pick up, such as the DP-450 (already out of my price range but the divx playback justifies this). I need dvd-r playback, macrovision disabling, multiregion, (s)vcd playback. You got any suggestions?

Go with the apex 1100w, I have one, it plays everything (and I do mean everything) It's also very easy to remove macrovision (takes, 2 minutes max)

pjeer?

don't worry to much about macro, get a macro killer seperately if you need one. personally, i've never had a setup that NEEDED a killer, altho one of my players (which is now dead, lens is gone to la la land) a dansai 852 had a no-macro feature. doubt you'll find one anywhere tho.

I would suggest checking out the Richer Sounds website. I know for a fact that the Acoustic Solutions DVD321 can play everything as a mate picked one up from there for £40. Its not very nice to look at but plays the lot and has macro dissable.

Also check out the Cyberhome ADL528 SILVER. I have the older 512 model and that plays the lot and has macro disable too. Check on the vcdhelp website to see if the 528 does.

To be honest i'd go with what Pho suggests. You can pick up a nice Sony DVPNS310 for 5p shy of £70 on Richer Sounds and with the change from the 100 notes your spending you can pick up one of those macrovision killer devices and still have change for some ice cream and a copy of Playboy.

If you can find one I'd suggest an Apex AD-1500. It's easily demacrovisioned/deregioned, and it plays everything i've ever thrown at it!
