Chris Rock takes a SICK DAY
Chris Rock's next film will be for Universal Pictures and called SICK DAY. Teaming up with Imagine Entertainment and producer Brian Grazer, Rock will play a lazy guy who phones in sick to his job and then causes trouble with the next-door neighbors. The resulting mess could damage his wife's chances at earning a promotion at her work.
The script was written by Nick Marine. Now the search is on for a director.
Kilmer`s COLLATERAL
Actor Val Kilmer (RED PLANET) is now in talks to join the cast of Michael Mann's thriller COLLATERAL. If he can close a deal, Kilmer would play a NYC detective who is in hot pursuit of a hitman (played by Tom Cruise) using a cabbie (Jamie Foxx) as a driver. Of course, the kid in me can't help but point out that if Kilmer's deal works out...it's freakin' Iceman and Maverick together again.
Ahem. Sorry. Inner child got the better of me.
Filming on COLLATERAL is scheduled to commence in October. Now if they can only get Anthony Edwards involved...
TRUTH, JUSTICE and Del Toro?
IGN FilmForce has been informed by sources that Oscar-winner Benicio Del Toro has been approached to star in TRUTH, JUSTICE AND THE AMERICAN WAY. If he accepts, Del Toro would play Lamar Moglio, a detective hired by the mother of SUPERMAN actor George Reeves to investigate the mysterious circumstances surrounding his death.
Sources also tell FilmForce that Ben Affleck may no longer be interested in playing Reeves in the biopic. No reason for Affleck's change of heart was given.

RESIDENT EVIL blog
It appears that the filmmakers working on RESIDENT EVIL: APOCALYPSE are borrowing a trick originated by THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT. A website has sprouted at www.insideresidentevil.com that purports to be an outlet for an investigator researching the APOCALYPSE sets. According to the anonymous website writer, the evidence is pointing to the conclusion that there's far more reality to this threat of undead attacks than the public is being led to believe.
"The screenplay, (or is it really a blueprint to disaster?) is tightly controlled," writes the "journalist" in their latest update. "Those who do require this document are forced to agree to keep all details of this movie and of the Umbrella Corp in the strictest confidence.
"Tell people what is happening. Tell anyone. Tell everyone.
"Safe yourself. Save your loved ones."
Also appearing on the site was the first image of new character Jill Valentine (played by Sienna Guillory), prowling through a dark corridor armed with a flashlight and pistol.
Depp close to managing Burton`s CHOCOLATE FACTORY
Today's Variety reports that Johnny Depp has been offered the role of Willy Wonka in Tim Burton's remake of CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY. Negotiations have begun between Depp's agents and the movie's studio, Warner Bros. The thespian is in a strong position to earn a lot of gold coins; Depp's last film, Disney's PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN, is a $250 million dollar blockbuster.
Prior to Johnny Depp becoming the finalist for the part of Wonka, it was reported in early July that Christopher Walken was a strong candidate for the part. Another report issued by the Dark Horizons website said that Michael Keaton was another candidate at the time.
Variety also mentions that screenwriter Pamela Pettler is rewriting the script. Pettler worked on the Burton produced THE CORPSE BRIDE, a stop-motion animation film also at WB.
BLADE III targets new vamp hunters
VAN WILDER star Ryan Reynolds is in talks to play vampire hunter Hannibal King in BLADE: TRINITY for director David Goyer. Hannibal would be a close ally to another vampire hunter, Whistler's daughter, who may in fact be played by BIRDS OF PREY actress Ashley Scott.
All of this was reported in today's issue of Variety along with a mention that the characters of Hannibal and his female vamp slayer friend may be spun off into their own film after BLADE III's success level is known.
MUMMY actress finds more occult work with CONSTANTINE
THE MUMMY's Rachel Weisz could be in supernatural trouble again if she signs a deal to star in CONSTANTINE, the Warner Bros. adaptation of the HELLBLAZER comic book series. Weisz would play a police officer named Angela who saddles up with occultist John Constantine (Keanu Reeves) to investigate the strange circumstances surrounding her twin sister's death.
While The Hollywood Reporter has published Weisz's involvement with the production today, it was the FilmJerk website that first broke Weisz's involvement with CONSTANTINE mere hours before the trades landed the news. According to FilmJerk sources, Weisz is indeed signed to the movie and the producers are looking for 8 to 10-year-old identical twin girls to play the parts of Angela and her sister, Isabel, in a flashback scene in the film.
CONSTANTINE is scheduled to begin shooting late September and is tentantively eyed for a September 17, 2004 release.
Beware the Stone, CATWOMAN
Sharon Stone is the leading candidate to play CATWOMAN's adversary in the movie of the same name, reports The Hollywood Reporter. Stone would play a character named Laurel, the head of a cosmetics company by day, evil criminal mastermind by night.
Reporter also states that Josh Lucas (THE HULK) is now the top candidate to play Detective Lone, an ally of the Catwoman. Halle Berry remains attached to the project, with French special effects artist Pitof still slated to direct.
