Review: Jeepers Creepers 2
Spoilers Lie Within, but you won't care if you see the movie
It's easy to screw up a sequel, what with certain series' taking on different directors, maybe a new cast, or with a badly written script. But considering that Jeepers Creepers 2 had the same director, same writer (same guy for both), and an R rating which would have allowed him to basically do what he wants again, it's amazing just how badly he screwed it up.
It must be said, this movie is fucking hilarious. The only downside is that the 4 coloured guys seated behind me weren't listed in the credits under "Those guys making obvious yet extremely funny comments". Having the movie be funny is one thing, but when your audience is laughing at the ultra serious parts, the movie shouldn't be praised for that.
I loved the first Jeepers Creepers. It had great suspense throughout, and while the violence wasn't too hardcore, it was brutal enough to get it's point across. This one played out like a really bad 80's b horror that didn't realize how stupid it was, so that the audience can have fun watching it. The violence is very weak, the only real bloody moment had the audience in stitches (a kid disappears, only to return without most of his clothes, no head, and starts running around like a chicken), and the continuity is appallingly awful, some great stuff:
-The creeper falls on top of the bus, shattering all of the windows, and the kids make a mad dash for the exits. While some kids look out the now non existent front windows, other students start screaming that the doors have been sealed shut, and there's no way out. Uh huh. Oh and by the way, when they have to re-enter the bus later on, all of the windows have magically reappeared.
-The opening scene shows us a kid who has just strung up 3 scarecrows. The father yells at him to make sure they're strung up good. The kid goes back to check the scarecrow in the middle. It is revealed to be the creeper. Are we honestly expected to believe that something as vicious and fast as the creeper would need to pretend to be a scarecrow to plan a sneak attack on a dumb 10 year old farmboy? Incredible
-The father of the farmboy shows up midway through to save the day. he has a huge ass contraption mounted on top of his truck, designed to launch a spear with a rope attached. He shoots the creeper with it, who in turn starts flying away, dragging the truck. The passengers bail and the creeper drags the truck so hard it rolls for like 10 seconds (obviously destroying the gun if not the truck too), finally stopping, upside down. The movie cuts to 3 other students in a different situation, when suddenly *gasp* the truck shows up with only a door falling off and the father shoots the creeper with the gun WHICH IS IN PERFECT CONDITION. Amazing.
-Oh and there is the slight issue of half the classmates (I'd guess around 10 people) running for cover from the creeper, only to never be heard from or mentioned again.
This movie is the ultimate in garbage, it makes Freddy vs Jason look like a masterpiece by comparison. They'll more than likely make a Jeepers Creepers 3, but they aren't getting any more of my money. Pfft.
a very harsh 2/10
7/10 for the comedy of the black dudes in the audience, congrats homies.
