the film was not the best in the world but for a kids film it was very watchable, the sound was spot on, the video spot on also. when you dont have to pay for a film and it comes out on dvdr way before it is coming out in the shops to rent there is not really much room to complain unless it is done out of sync or or a very low bit rate, this isnt and as such gets the following

video 9.0
audio 9.0
film 6 (for adults) 8 for kids

nice job centropy getting the film out and about.

I am perplexed on what you based your scores on? Considering both the video and audio are untouched (audio is always untouched on all releases) and directly ripped off the DVD without any re-encoding at all. I am just curious.

All in all, this release video and audio wise is a duplicate to which you would buy or rent. You can't get any better than this. Especially on a DVD-R.

But I do agree, the movie was not good.

no dts and video is ntsc which shows as alot darker on uk television systems, hence 9.0 and 9.0
so apart from it wont be the same as the uk rental those are my scores, you dont have to agree with them.

There is no DTS even on the retail BTW... However, I doubt the children will be able to tell the diff

However, I didn't know about the PAL/NTSC darker image stuff. That is strange since all PAL stuff shows up perfect here in good ol' NTSC land. I suggest turning up the brightness in that case I wonder why it shows up darker though...

porco:It's kinda pointless to rate the quality of the audio in regard of the rip, since its always untouched, same with cases where video is untouched. For those cases I for one instead rate on the quality of the retail itself.

I'll give this a 9/9, good rip but my dog could've done it blindfolded

The audo on dvdrs i know is untouched but i think people base it upon the overlay quality of the audio when play against a quality film with good sound.

Very true, but does that make it any less of a release? Bad movie and easy rip (my cat too could have done this one also ), however came out one month early and 1:1 replica of video and audio. So what constitutes a 10/10 in audio and video if direct rips without transcoding are 9/10? This was my initial question.

I play lots of NTSC on lots of PAL tvs and have never experienced any darker images as opposed to their PAL equivs - must be your TV or DVD deck!

low film score based upon my being 23 - my eight year old cousin loved it though - one for the wee yins!

Good answer... I guess we are all spoiled with DVD-Rs and their 5.1/DTS sound I miss the good ol' days of VHS (NOT!!)

The 10/10 I've given are the ones that either look great/sound great on original disc and is untouched on the rip, or is a exceptionally good rip, like the last samurai, very low bitrate but still looks fantastic. This is none of those cases so I gave it a slightly lower score.

Oh and I didnt say it made it less of a release, was just pointing out it was a easy rip and not much else could be said about the ripping of it. (Although the bad movie makes it less of a release)

Yes But they stole the word "replica" from me hehe

BTW< wait till you see the retail of Last Samurai... Video quality is supposed to be amazing! And if the 3200kbit/sec version looks good, wait till the 6400kbit/sec Can't wait till dual layer burners where we won't have to talk about quality anymore and everything will be scored 10 cross the board (except movie )
