Wasn't going to get this one, but I figured with the scene being slow, I needed something to watch...
Movie wasn't bad actually (to my surprise). Not the biggest Woo fan, but this one was better than some of his recent work...
But let's get down to the main reason this post exists... Picture quality...
I was actually pseudo pleasantly surprised by aNBc on this one. The video DOES show noticeable downsampling (especially in chapters 6 and 21, amongst alot of other places not as badly). I feel chapter 6 is probably the original film print which is at fault for that one. They could have directed the 600 megs they spent on both the worthless 4:3 letterbox trailers for Captain, Timeline, Against the Ropes and Perfect Score, and not like I am ever going to listen to the 2 director's commentary for this movie. However, this is one man's preference and I'm sure some of you guys will be watching the trailers 3 times while watching the 2 hour movie many times with commentary
Audio is audio... Can't complain about this one (5.1, obviously not downsampled...).
So the picky man's scores are:
7.5/10 video - Probably would have been 8.5/10 if the full DVD-R was dedicated to menu and movie (no commentary or trailers). Of course for a one time watch movie, this release is ample.
10/10 audio - As good as the original DVD would be.
9/10 DVD-R - I am happy that aNBc didn't try to pull a *complete* on this one. They did a nice median between movie only people like myself and the people that enjoy more of the extras.
