In the Cockpit

R.I.P. Tupac Amaru Shakur

just got done watching this. wanted to see it badly ever since the first preview i saw well over 6 months ago now and couldn't wait for it to get released on dvd as i didn't get to make it to the cinema. as always, aNBc did a great rip although this is one of maybe 5% of movies i actually give a damn about when it comes to extras so i am a little disappointed we don't get any with this release. i wouldn't have minded ripping out foreign audio tracks and maybe 10% degradation in video to get some extras squeezed in, but oh well.

10/10/10

i started listening to 2pac after his third album, Thug Life, and became an immediate fan. i must admit i was a white teenage boy at the time but was addicted to listening to his music. his acting skills were definately sharp and it's a shame his life ended so early as i'm most certain he would have gotten much more academy acclaim for his acting skills. i do realize he got alot of acclaim as he was alive, but we all know he had so much more potential than we saw.

to anyone who's ever been a fan, and even to those who never knew the real tupac, i highly recommend this title. i considered myself very educated on the man but this film shed some light on alot of things that i had never known about him. a great movie, a great man.

I'm not a rap fan at all, but I do like documentries (usually war ones). But I've seen like 4-5 tupac documentries already and this wasn't any different then the others. New footage really didn't warrant the new documentry. But if you havent seen the countless others then this would be pretty good.

There is no point reviewing the video quality since there is alot of circa 90's VHS and/or cheaper camera footage. Looked fine to me though

I too like documentaries, however I usually don't end up watching 80% of them (still need to watch Capturing the Friedmans). I watched this one and it was pretty good. I wouldn't go to theaters for it, but I do consider this the end-all of all Tupac documentaries. The video and audio are great, can't improve on that much. Plus, as mentioned, it is similar to the other Tupac documentaries that I saw and there was no real shock value.

Overall untouched video, good audio and decent documentary.

10 for Vid and 10 for DVD-R. Movie, watch it and judge for yourself. But if you really aren't a rap/hip-hop fan, it might not be your cup of tea.

In the Cockpit

there have been many straight-to-video productions about 2Pac. this one not only sheds light on alot of things alot of people never knew (though maybe not the most important things about his life, but still interesting), but it is, as advertised 'in his own words' and i think you guys are forgetting that. every other release about him was, for the most part, largely done with some annoying narrator who did very little research on the man and mostly only covered what had been discussed about 2Pac in news articles.

though every other 2Pac video has been interesting (to me, at least since i have been a big fan for a long time), they are what you can consider 'unofficial' and that's another thing that seperates this release from all the others.

with all this said, had this been another 'unofficial' release that was narrated by some journalist who really didn't know too much about him (like all the rest) then i, too, would be a bit let down.
