Question Questions from OZ

Hi,

I stumbled across your great forum and have been reading all your information.

I am absolutely brand new to all this stuff, so I understand if you don't want to help.
I have some questions ... hopefully you will someone will be kind enough to help me with. (I did try the search button but it keeps throwing me back to the 'registration page' for some reason). So I hope you don't mind.

1. What are your preferences for usenet services? I have seen easynews mentioned here? I notice that each review has a "group" next to it like ... centropy, POT etc. Can you access these all from one newsgroup in particular or should you subscribe to a few? Or .... are these ones only accessible through IRC? Or is the usenet service even necessary. searching through the ftp search, it leads you directly to some files already?

2. I already have nero. What is the best software to use to compile the project...... (or do you need more than one?) I have seen DVDlab mentioned here too???

3. Would anyone be kind enough to offer a little bit of time as a 'help buddy' via pm's or email. As I said I am brand new at this and there is very little if not no exposure at all to this type of activity here in Australia. They shelter us from it and its pretty much considered taboo. I am not stupid, and a quick learner, but its hard to decipher all the info I am reading here and video help sometimes.

Thanks in advance .....

[EDIT:: Be VERY careful how you answer this one please folks, no Newsgroup names, IRC channels or anything stupid (and illegal) like that - Neversoft]

Hello, I am new to all this aswell, but I have tried to answer your questions.

1) The names next to the reviews (centropy, pot etc.) are the people that "released" the movie, they generally all end up on usenet within a week of release, dumwaldo created a thread HERE that should answer a lot of your questions. I quite like usenet but I know that alot of people on this forum don't. My ISP has a fucking brilliant server with 99% completion and 40-60 day retention so I don't bother paying for a premium news server

2) I don't understand what you mean by compile? If you are talking about burning cue/bin files to CD to watch in your standalone then Nero is adequate, I prefer Alcohol 120% but then again I can't be arsed to try many others and don't really have the time, if it ain't broken, why fix it?

3)Load up MIRC and channel surf for a while, you will be AMAZED what you can pick up (information wise) there. If you pay my fare from the UK to come visit you I will gladly impart all my knowledge on to you (should take about 3 minutes) then I can sunbathe!

Dumwaldo mentions in his post SLYCKS WEBSITE, I can't recommend it enough to start with

Really? It's not taught in grade schools there? Odd ...

My advice -- now that you've registered, you can use the Search button.

umm no u are just sheltered from it, i know many leeches that are from Australia,

anway dude. no one is going to tell u the best place to leech from, so the best way is try your luck. try some news groups, try some irc channels, and try some torrents. their is other places but i don't think this is the best place to get into that kind of conversation.
