5.1/6.1 DivX DVD player

right now i have a Daewoo DVD-5900 and tomorrow I'm gonna buy the Philips DVP642 and I was wondering if I could buy a 5.1 or a 6.1 system, plug in the RCA cables and get the 5.1 or 6.1 encoded on the DVD or do I have to have a special DVD player that is capable of this?

If so is there a 5.1 or 6.1 DivX compatible, DVD player out there?

Bitter, miserable twat.

All modern players can output AC-3/DTS from a DVD as a digital stream via a coaxial or optical output. The DivX compatible players should be able to do this with an AC-3 stream within an AVI file, but I wouldn't like to guarantee it.

This is the preferred way to connect, but you need to buy a 5.1 system that includes a Dolby Digital/DTS decoder.

Alternatively, some DVD players have a built-in decoder, and output the analogue audio channels through a series of RCA connectors. Again, this'll work for DVDs but I'm not certain it'll work on AVIs.

If you do it this way, then you can buy a cheapo 5.1 amp-only system without a decoder (the type sold for use with a PC), alright for a bedroom I suppose.
