WTF?

Hey what do expect SCREAM to do?
If the studio released a non-standard format screener changing it to the NTSC standard will just fuck up the A/R.
If this one comes my way I will cherish it and learn to love the black bars.

EDIT:
I love this site BTW.

Isn't 704x480 a legitimate NTSC DVD resolution?

yep i think its just non-anamorphic, which is not the groups fault, but rather the studios, youll only be able to tell a difference if you have a ws tv. i dunno tho, havent grabbed sample/anything from this.

It played on one of my players, but not the other. Once I did a 'Get VTS Sectors' in IFOedit, and reburned, it worked in both my players fine.

It is definitely NOT anamorphic, and looked kinda crappy on my 57" widescreen. Also something weird I have never seen on a dvd screener before - at the VERY start of the disc, there is a big blue 'idle' screen of a dvd player, and then you see a play icon pop up in the corner, then the movie starts and the icon disappears a couple of seconds later. This really seems like they captured this into a PC and encoded it (which could explain the non-anamorphic aspect as well - I just don't believe a major studio would release a dvd-screener these days that was NOT anamorphic). I find it really hard to believe this is untouched video.

But hey, it's the best release of "Sideways' so far

theres a whole thread explaining this somewhere - the oscar dvd screeners are not rippable in conventional fashion, and have to be captured - thats where the blue screen you mention comes from.

checkout this article: http://www.mpeg-playcenter.com/kiss...theres_more.htm

this year the MPAA paid a company called Kiss to make special encrypted DVD players, they sent the dvd players & screeners to the oscar judges. considering the video is rather blocky, and there is the "play" message at the beginning, this is most likely a capture from the s-video output and resized to 704*480 (A VALID NTSC RESOLUTION, this rls should not have been nuked anywhere, it's perfectly valid).

video - 6 - what can i say, blocky in flat colored scenes (like walls, the sky, etc)... otherwise sharp

audio - 10 - perfect transfer, probably a direct digital capture

movie - 9 - one of the best movies of 2004

MUCH MUCH thanks to the folks who are willing to offer us these rips, they are great quality... far better than anything out.

They could, but never will because it takes a special player to play these DVDs.

Yep most likely captured and rendered/scaled at an odd resolution, no one uses this res because its not compatable with all DVD players.

Definatly SCREAM's fault for a good source and lousing it up.
