Ideas to improve the voting system...

Ok, here's an idea i've been mulling over to try and improve voting accuracy and to get rid of the little dickwads messing shit up for everyone else. See what you think.

How about BEFORE allowing anyone to vote, you have to log in or something. you know. have a user account etc. I know thats the general practice already, but i'm talking about some sort of fully fledged account (sort of something like Amazon etc though obviously not as complex coz it don't need to be).

Then when a user casts votes maybe they can have a "vote history" that they can access and review (aka imdb.com) and also you can access their vote log. and if they are assholes, close their account, ban the IP yadda yadda...

Closing the account would wipe their votes too, maybe it would keep it in-line with a more accurate voting system. also, give them some kind of incentive to sign up i dunno something like this:

If you sign up, we'll send you a newsletter, plus you'll receive email updates of new releases before they are put live to the site. Something like that anyway i dunno it's hot and i'm tired.

See what you think.

That has already been implemented, read the news section

That's probably not possible i dont think, since releases are added to the site as soon as they are seen floating on sites or the next day if everybody is sleeping (in which case wont be able to anyway)
There is obviously a short deley in time to get the sample and do the jpegs to post, but i doubt it is very long. In which case would it all be worth it to know X mins earlier via email (thats is assuming the user would check email in that short time)

Yeah i guess.

I dunno, just a bunch of ideas i had floating around. Never know, something i've said above may have sparked off another idea for someone else...

Well, O, technically the suggestion has not been implemented (that of an "extra special" account for voting), but it was discussed-- very well-- in the news section. But since the discussion took place a year ago (Aug 2001) I think it might be time to revisit the concept. I, for one, would happily pay to have fewer lamers around the place, posting and voting. I just paid to continue going to gamespot.com. Is this place big enough? How many people have donated? My hunch is that these people's opinions and posts are going to be more valuable and accurate than some of the 6 page dummyfests we have now.

It did, Mystic One. Maybe they can tally the votes differently, using the 'median' or the other 'm' method. OR, and I like this---> Just secretly cut off the 1's. 1 is a bullshit vote-- every other number is (much more) likely to be truthful (even most of the 10's). Just do it quietly. Another mystic thought---> A bar that pops up during the audio voting, which asks if the person voting has actually listened to a sample, and please don't vote (audio) if you haven't. An extra click, but it could have a good effect, even on video voting.

Another (more fascist) thought---> just have someone start deleting more of the clearly useless posts. A post-nuker, if you will.

But structurally and conceptually, this place is better than all the others, IMHO. We don't really need '114 new" post counts, that's what the top line or two of each category is for. Maybe change the blue eyeball-looking guy on the title bar. He's fine, but if you wanna spray some perfume on the place, go ahead.

In conclusion, since you have the luxury of enjoying the status quo of your structural perfection, any changes you make should be regarding content, and the quality and accuracy of the contributors. (don't tell anyone but I'm secretly working on a button which will instantly- and over the internet- blow the head off of every f**king lamer who posts a bullshit vote or post). Meanwhile, this is where I hope you'll spend your "how can I make things better" time.

sending 10-4 the cause.
