Search Feature

The search feature seems a little buggy to me ?

quote:
Basic query: separate your search terms with spaces.

Advanced query: Join words with AND, OR and NOT to control your search in more detail.
Add asterisks (*) to use wild cards in your search (*bullet* matches vBulletin etc.)

I tried the following searches:

pan scan - which i knew would not work
*pan*scan* - which worked but only returned result such as 'pan&scan'
panANDscan - which for obvious reason did not work, and should not work
*pan* AND *scan* - worked but only returned results where 'pan' was part of a larger word, such as pan&scan
pan AND scan - which i assumed was the way the AND was intended, but gives error Your search string (pan) is smaller than the minimum etc.
scan AND pan - same error as above.

Maybe im just doing something wrong, but would it be more efficiant if the min length was ignored when using AND so long as at least one of the words was the required 4 char min. Since when using AND the post must contain both/all of the words, this makes a search such as 'pan AND scan' more defined that a usuall search (so there is little chance of results overflow etc) and would not cause the problem short search strings such as pan on its own would.

I dunno, just a thought.

actually.. the 4 char min word lenght is from mysql and its fulltext search abilities.. theres a couple things vbulletin could have done to get around it.. but it causes searches to be incredibly slow and hard on the database server.. so i guess they dind't want to do it..
