DVD menu-stripping among other stuff..

HIYA all here at VCDQUALITY!

I have some questions for ya' about DVD-ripping:

1st - the PAL Interlace...

I think I have read somewhere DVD2AVI ALLWAYS flags PAL DVDs as INTERLACED, even if the content of the DVD isn't.. Is it a fact, or am I mistaken?

And if I'm correct, how do I check the PAL DVD-content to see if a de-interlace is necessary or not?

...and.... I use the 'simple' CCE-encoding - either the DVD2SVCD, if I only want the main movie re-encoded, or the DVDrebuilder. For Encoding, I use the CCE SP 2.67+ retail

But I'm reading the DOOM9-guide for 'the new big three' at the moment, so here is a question about that as well...

If I used 'the big three', would my output-quality be any better, or would my project be finished faster? (than the DVDrebuilder)

At last, it's the MENUEDIT I have a question about. I've ripped 'the salton sea' with decrypter(as .ISO), mounted the image, and re-encoded the entire DVD9 to DVD+R. BUT.... I stripped off the French audio.

So, I start MENUEDIT and try to remove the 'frech audio'-button.. Should I remove it completly, set it to NOP or give it a new specific command? I tried a rip of the same movie some days ago, and when removing some of the subs-buttons entirely with MENUEDIT, and playing the DVD in my standalone, it hung itself up at the menu.. So I deff' did something wrong! Anyone who can give me clues for how I remove sub-buttons proper, after stripping away the sub from the VOB's?

And ofcourse, now that I've included all the subs in the new rip, what do I do with the 'French Audio'-button?

To finish this up, one final - Is a DVD re-encode with the DVDrebuilder/CCE concidered to be within the 'scene regulations' a long as I follow the bitrate-rules??

Hopefully, someone will answer me here.. I hate PM'ing for support when I get 'no reply' and getting stonewalled instead..

Greets, LynxTheCat

Punk B1tch

Here is my process:

1) Rip movie with DVD Decrypter
2) Run the movie through DVD-Remake and remove all the buttons, menus and audio that I don't want. (The program is very easy to use and is not nearly as complicated as MenuEdit/VOB Blanker/etc).
3) If the movie still needs shrunk, I run it through DVD-Rebuilder. If I really care about the movie, I will do 4 or 5 pass CCE encode, but if I'm not that concerned with using the entire 4.7Gb on the DVD I will run it through 1 pass OPV with CCE using DVD-RB. (the only problem with this method is that it doesn't always output full sized dvd's).

My method:

1. Rip with DVD Decrypter
2. Load up DVD Shrink, if the movie needs to be compressed then I re-edit the movie taking out menus, extras, etc... I already have it setup to take out subs and audio I don't want.
3a. Inside DVD Shrink I will push the backup button and it will shrink and burn it.
3b. If the DVD does not need to be compressed then I load DVD Decrypter back up and burn the image.

Easy simple 2 program process..

i use dvd decrypter to rip it to file, Then i use pgc edit to kill the vobs of what extras i dont need etc. Then i use menuedit to kill buttons i wont need and then i use imgtool classic to convert to iso. i then mount it with daemon tools and fire up doitfast4u and select which languages i am going to keep (normally english and directors commentary) and i start the big 3 process. normally a 4 or 5 pass iwith CCE 2.7 sp. After it is done i clean up with ifoedit (still learning that one) and either burn it or create a new image file with imgtool classic.

Thumbs up

one way i do dvds is to:

1. rip into files [vob/ifo] with DVDDecrypter

2. remove menus/languages/subs/extras etc with DVDSHRINK [i keep the movie only as to get the highest quality i can get besides who watches the freakin documantaries anyways?

3. encode with DVDRemake with as many passes as needed to keep the bitrate above 3,000 as this seems to be a nice stable amount for me at least! yours may differ!!

4. burn to dvd, get some popcorn and enjoy.

one thing i have noticed is that when dvdshrink "remakes" the files when i remove everything but the movie it splits the files into different vob/ifo numbering, so u have to be careful with the "50% I don't care about the quality of the extras" option with dvdremake or you will get half the movie with 300kb and the other half 3000kb which is VERY noticable!!! I think that dvdremake just ASSUMES the smaller of the file is extras and therefore makes that vob the lowest bitrate needed. This has worked pretty good with most of the dvds i get from the store, but with tv shows it gets a little more complicated!
