Man, it's getting tough, putting an average of 40 to 50 dollars a day everytime I work. At 2.49 per gallon, it adds up. Plus big vans suck gas, especially with dual air conditioner systems (which kill gas mileage, but with 90 degree temps, I have to keep myself and the teens cool plus the products will melt if kept in high heat for too long) so I'm feeling it. I might even have to raise the price of our products just to cover the extra expense. Which is what is going to happen to everything else, as gas prices always effect, in the long run, the price we pay for other goods and services.
Kal is right, adjusting for inflation, we still are paying less, but again, when your use to paying under a dollar for a gallon (early 80's, when I got my license at 16, it was around 80 cents), 2.50 seems to fucking high. Granted, we pay less than most other countries, but there has to be some changes made. I wish I could use a better mileage vehicle, but my business doesn't allow for it at all. I have no choice but to use gas sucking, low mileage vans.
One good thing, I can write it off my taxes, and with Speedway's reward card, I am now at my 3rd free 25 gallons of gas, which I plan on using by Friday. That's $62 worth of free gas, and I've already got over $100 worth since they started the program. And the good thing is, they don't keep their prices higher than other stations, so I'm not getting screwed by using them all the time.
