avi

Getting a bit confused as to why so many vcds are distributed in .avi format.

Using Nero it takes 45min to encode where the .mpg ones burn instantly, and the resulting disks seem to be worse quality than the .mpgs.

Any answers/advice appreciated
Cheers

Canis rufus atheist

Not everyone burns (especially not with Nero).

And more importantly, a lot of people have TV-Out or a DVD player that plays the AVIs...

Oh, and BTW, most of the shitty AVIs that you are talking about are from re-encode groups. (TMD, etc)

MEOW DAMN IT!!!

don't ever use nero to convert formats,it completely sucks..you can pick up a dvd player that can play avi/xvid/divx/(s)vcd ect.. for less than $70..then you won't need to bother re-encoding,or just don't download crappy copies, stick with the "real" releases..

You are more than a bit confused. A VCD is one thing, an AVI is another. Start off by taking a big long tour of slyck.com, videohelp.com and doom9 too.

P.S. Never let Nero re-encode anything.

Happy reading and welcome to piracy101.

Thanks

Thanks everyone.
Just I have seen a lot of files made for vcds in .avi format.

I have been converting to mpg in winAVI and burning that way, just wondered what was the norm.
