Dependable DVDR media

just got a Sony DW-D22A w/ supposed "buffer underun protection"
last night I went thru 4 verbatim dvdr's tried burning @ 8x/6x/4x all crappered out.
gonna check the firmware +aspi drivers tonight. in the interim I'm wondering
if anyone can recommend dependable dvdr blanks (brand name)

It's love baby!

I've never had any problems with Verbatim DVD-R 16x, burn perfect everytime. Item #95058. If your using the same, I would indeed check and update your firmware. And btw, I've never used +r, I've always have used the minus ones.

Another brand I've used with success is Memorex, a little more expensive, and Windata, much cheaper. Got both in the past from Micro Center.

i use ritek media now, i was using the G04 which is superb but now i have moved on to the G05 which isnt as good but very reliable. if you want to go for the best media about get Taiyo Yuden media, i havent used them myself as they are still expensive in the uk but i havent heard a bad thing about them at all. i think the media codes are TYG01 and TYG02 and it might go upto 3.

Wow! You must be that one guy I've heard about.

Seriously though, I've heard nothing but garbage about Memorex DVD-Rs.

With my standalone Panasonic DVDRecorder, I use Samsung BeAlls.

For my LG Multi-DVD drive, I use Maxell ±R(W).

no firmware update on Sony's DVDRw drive. went thru two more blanks last night. Using oem NTI DVD Maker
crapped out after burning 350MB
the program actually told me 'all done' after it had just gotten to burning Table of Contents.

...thinking i got dinked from the supplier
and lack of buffer underrun protection
i wonder what my dvdrw drive will look like after i set it on fire w/ napalm

I don't understand why people have so many problems with other manufacturers... I've only ever bought those cheapo NEC3500's for myself and other people - they'll burn to anything, they're consistent and reliable.

I know it's not what you want to hear after you purchased that Sony thing but I'd suggest sending the cunt back and buying a cheapo NEC!!

Don't worry about it, those NEC drives will burn to anything! I have no issues at all, although generally my DVDRs are the Datawrite classic grey simply cos that's what the bloke in the shop sells

The Ritek G04 were shit for me for some reason (got from meritline, originally sent me the wrong ones. i was unsure on it so I used DVDInfo and they weren't the G04 so I had to send back, then got the real ones)

I've been usuing Sony, Memorex, & TDK and have had no bad burns yet. mainly 8x discs burnt at 4x (thinking about getting a new burner)

But this Pioneer A06 External 4x is just so beautiful!

media

as far as my PC goes any media is about the same, but the ritek g04's are great but are getting hard to find (4x), the g05's are almost as reliable at (8x) and as reliable if not more at 4-6x. Ive burnt the g05 at 10x without problems...

Reading them in stand alones is a different story, I've had my best results, on a wide range of standalones with the g04/05 by ritek, I've also bought brand name disks,(ie: verbatim, memorex, staples branded, HP branded) and had a freakin' coaster fest, it seems that you need to find a good match for your setup taking into account your burner, which media it prefers and which disc your standalone dvd player likes just as well...

find a good combo and stick with it.

I've got the NEC 3520a was only like $40 bucks. great deal. anyways, I think taiyo yuden is generally the best media.

Check out rima.com for good deals on media especially taiyo yuden. 100 are only like $40 or 50 for $22

Lol, I don't know about that, but I can tell you, in the 8 years or so since I first bought my 2x cdr burner (HP), I've never had problems with any of media. Even the no name blank cdrs CompUSA carries. Though the last two cdr burners, and my current dvd burner, have all been Lite-Ons which might be part of the reason. But to date, other than the occasional coaster through user error, I've never had a problem. Must be that other guy than too!

I strongly recommend Pro Disc DVD-R. I buy 100 of them on eBay for $22.00. They come in two spindles of 50 and I've burned maybe 70 of them so far and the only coaster was my fault. I also buy cases on eBay 100 for $34.00. It works out great, for only 56 cents I have a DVD with a case. Now if I can find a great deal on ink, I could start printing more covers.
