Re-Mastering

hi fellow vcdq'ers...

i was just wondering if theres any software for remastering video footage. i have a vhs tape from like 2 years ago which got very warped when i lent it out to someone a while back. the stuff on it i cant find anywhere else (the best of the new tom green show to be exact) and i wouldnt mind keeping these shows...

i just need to blur out or clean up some split second things like flickers and horizontal lines. they happen constantly for the first 5-10 minutes of the tape and are very distracting.

its not a tracking problem or anything, ive tried adjusting it etc and tried about 3 vcrs and the same thing on every one

pjeer?

the reason you can't find the best of the new tom green show anywhere is, only c4 were pathetic enough to air such a hacked up edition of his show.

i shouldn't really dig c4 too much, but their tv lineup tonight sucks so thats enough for me to get pissy.

Bitter, miserable twat.

I'd suggest AviSynth + the DeScratch filter, but looks like it might be too much for it.
Can you just delete the affected frames or are there too many?

theres quite a few messed up frames. i keep getting split second flickers like the ones in the images and split-second lines rolling down the screen.

i think the tape is slightly chewed at the edge or sumthin

Something else to try

just a thought but have you tried tightening the spools (I use the word spools cos I cant think of anything better, the wheels on a video), if they are loose this can cause the tape to flap against the head of the video and cause a bad picture. If you turn the spools oposite ways until they dont move.

Worth a shot

NB I used to work at blockbuster (until I was fired), so therefore I am an expert on all things VHS

hmm sounds like a good idea but how would i go about doing that?? is it hard?? besides, the recording is about 3 years old, the tape is 10 years old and used to be used all the time but was all i could find at the time of recording, so its bound to be a little dodgy. i will try the spool thing though!

i already got a simple one called a 'video stabilizer' or something. its just got a scart in/scart out thing. it corrects color balance and stablilizes picture etc but wont take away the flickers and areas where the tape is a bit chewed...

i got it 3 years ago so i could copy dvd to video (b4 broadband) so it would remove the macrovision signal. it worked pretty damn nice aswell !!
