Scream had a release? I missed that one. Probably a PAL?

But as for proper, I think they were talking about the Smirnoff crap released which were not even R1. So technically, this isn't even a proper, it's more of an actual.

For a 145 min movie, this release barely makes the cut. Of course Replica did a great job on the release, but the length of movie (not to mention the genre) makes the video just OK. The saving grace is that there isn't a whole lot of action in this movie (it's lots of yap yap yap). So precious bitrate was most likely saved for the couple action scenes.

On a side note (while talking video quality). I got QuickTime 7 Pro and watched the Brothers Grimm trailer in H.264!!! HOLY SHIT! Had it on my large TV (@1280x720). Absolutely incredible. So much background detail. No artifacting. Sharp and clear. Makes DVDs look like VHS. Only issue is that it stutters. Apparently I need a dual 2.8GHz to run that shit, yet a Mac can run it on a freggin' Mac Classic. I am sure it will get optimized for Intel/AMD chips.

But back to the release. This one is definitely the one (and currently only real) release to get.

Video 7.5/10 - Eh, I'm picky. And watching the H.264 trailer didn't help Great job to Replica however.

Got an Athlon 3000+, it plays the H.264 fine. Save a bit of CPU using celtic_cruid's latest build of MPlayer. Would be nice if Apple atleast tried to optimise playback of their H.264 video for on Windows machines though.

x264 (an open-source H.264 based codec) IMO even at this early stage is ahead of Apple's H.264 codec in terms of quality. No surprise though.

Good DVDR release!

he means the IKA release i think, also this does warrant a proper as IKA left in 900mb of trailers and with no sound, so the extra 700kbps for movie is well worth it.

All depends on the video though. I will check out the x264 for sure. Ironically, I watched the Kingdom of Heavens trailer also (switch to related topic ) and that played 100% fine, but it didn't look very impressive. It's only really the Grimm trailer that blew me away and hurt my computer. Only on fast motion. Slow moving stuff was perfectly smooth playback.

But yes, this Kingdom of Heaven was a good DVD-R release

You are damn right about Quicktime and windows... they just don't go together! has been like this for quite long and still annoying me. All 1280 HDTV trailers are lagging real slow on my XP 2200+ 512 MO of RAM, even with mplayer quicktime alternative.

Any suggestion to lump that machine over to the 21st century ?

::EDIT:: This is a REVIEW THREAD, stoppit!! - NS::

This will be my last post on this unrelated topic

There is nothing you can do right now to help you with H.264. Video cards are coming out with hardware support (ATi at least is) and of course, as the codec becomes more optimized, we'll benefit also. If it doesn't, well, HD-DVD will just not take off because that is the codec for Blu-Ray and HD-DVD. If a P4 3.4 with 1GB RAM can't play it, then I dunno what will (a dual 2.8 apparently). Maybe I need to turn back on my Hyperthreading (I find it slower). It DOES call for a "dual" CPU system.

Just wait and see what happens.

**ENDING IRRELEVANT THREAD... Sorry about that Neversoft**

It's so long since I watched the Telecine of this I'd almost forgotten what it was about. Replica's transfer is much better than the Telecine of course and has the advantage of 5.1 surround 'though not DTS or a director's commentary. Motion is a bit jerky during the fast action sequences and there are the trademark Replica menu glitches which are easilly cured with PGCedit.

Not having liked Gladiator I was all ready to slag off this movie but it's really quite good. A bit too much like Troy in some respects but a decent stroyline which doesn't stretch credulity too far.

7/7/7
