What an odd little film
So yeah, just got done watching it. Really, really weird movie. Good, but weird.
Video - 9: It's a good quality source, no watermarks, b&w sections or anything else that can accompany a screener. Video is encoded properly. Not much else to say really.
Audio - 7: Not the worst I've heard in a DVD SCR, but by far not the best. The audio is understandable, but it suffers from some serious clipping issues. (i.e. sounds like it's been amplified way too much) This is usually only noticable during the more actioney sequences, but if you listen closely you can generally hear the problem throughout the film. The audio also goes from stereo to mono for a short bit towards the middle of the film, which sounds really jarring when played through headphones or a good home theater setup.
Movie - 8: Really quite enjoyable, sort of an independent film version of The Sixth Sense or any of those other "try to figure out what's really going on" films. It's a little harder to follow than mainstream films of a similar vein, and it takes a little more effort to become invested in the plot; if you do though, it's well worth it. The ending (or rather, the revealing of what the hell is going on) isn't precisely genius, but it's pretty clever all the same. Very satisfying for 90 minutes of lead-up.
The film isn't perfect though: sometimes the low budget nature of the film is painfully obvious. Most of the actors did fine jobs, but a couple of the smaller roles were filled by people who have little to no talent whatsoever. In particular, the older blond woman sounds like she's a robot for half her scenes. (Though the other half she's golden) Some of the camera work is also questionable, in some cases shot with a scene composition reminescent of the 50s or so; it's just enough to give you that subtle, can't-put-a-finger-on-it, "this is low budget" vibe.
Bottom line: A good release to download and watch, but probably not worth keeping. You could consider waiting for a better release, (if there ever is one) but this film is good enough that it's worth putting up with the audio problems to see it.
