Is Vista too much for a solo processor? Even with 1 gig of RAM? Fairly simple question, but you guys may know the answer without me searching. .

See, I had it on a solo processor and the power supply went bad. I chalked that up to the fact that the pc was a little bit old. But could it be that Vista needs the newer systems, core 2 duo processors, and 2 gigs of RAM in order to function properly?

If so, I will put XP back on it as I now have a new desktop with Vista Ultimate on it.

I am thinking yes, but I wanted to hear from the masses.

It's made to run on older systems, Like I stated in an earlier thread I have tough time with media on it.

You should have a decent system to run it though.

Alright then, how about this. Can I roll back the OS to XP Home (this is the older PC I had not the new desktop I bought) without losing any data?

All I needed was a new power supply and my dumbass didn't believe it. I truly thought the hard drive was fried as it smelled like it.

I took the old power supply out smelled it to see if it had that smell ( I know some of you have done this ). Long story short the HD smelled fried but it wasn't and the power supply appeared to be good but wasn't.

I don't want to run it very much. When I do turn it on, it will be to burn back ups of existing data. Just in case the HD is going bad.

I guess I got my answer about Vista being too much, but how about my new set of queries?

If by not losing any data you mean files and such, dream on. to roll back to XP, you will have to format the drive as Vista's file system is a newer leaner NTFS base.

As for the single/dual core question, I run it fine on a single core AMD running at 1.8 Ghz with a gig of ram.

Likely the HD is fine. You can always run the manufacturers diagnostics for the drive and test it.
