well, people telling 'get a FULL-HD res source if you want better quality' on this are either friends of the releasing group or being plain stupid.
I didn't rate the picture quality in comparison to a 50gb Blu-Ray 1080p picture. I did rate it for what it is DVD-R (5) rip from a RETAIL (DVD9) source.
And those don't necessarily have to be at such a low bitrate (avg video BR is actually 3415) , blurry and blocky on movement. There would have probably been a chance to have it
ripped UNTOUCHED.
Instead this release contains
- Additional audio tracks English 2.0 (!!!), French 5.1 (!), Spanish 5.1 (!)
Trailers of the following upcoming movies (~ 8 minutes):
- BEE MOVIE, KUNG FU PANDA, SPIDERWICK CHRONICLES (!)
Trailers of the following OLD movies (~5 minutes):
- Shrek 1 DVD, Shrek 2 DVD, Charlotte's Web (!!!)
Video Jukebox films of the following movies (~ 15 minutes):
- Shrek, Shrek 2, Shark Tale, Madagascar, Over the Hedge, Flushed Away (!!!)
7 Featurettes (over 60 minutes of additional video):
- Worcestershire Academy, Big green Goofs, Lost Scenes, Donkey Dance, Meet the Cast, Shrek's Guide to Parenthood, Tech of Shrek
Now how much stuff on this disc would you consider overweight? And I don't even want to know how it was ripped. Either way, the video quality has been unnecessarily degraded and even the biggest fan of extra material does not need old movie trailers or duplicate audio tracks. All this has led me to rate it "V - 6.0" and not the assumption that it could be as good as a blu-ray disc. sigh.
Even though you can get more perfect rips (DVD-R DL, hi-res rips) these days, doesn't mean all DVD-R rips can be as bad as it gets.
