Finally got around to watching this last night.
The entire movie is in Vietnamese, so you have to deal with merging the subtitle files unless you speak that language. My feeling is that the subtitles should have already been edited into the movie before it was released, which would have saved a lot of processing time before I could actually watch it.
V=9
A=9
M=3
This could have been a great movie, but I had I big problem watching it. The movie constantly jumps time frames from different years in the past, present time, and flashbacks. Normally, I really like movies that do that, (ala Vanilla Sky or Pulp Fiction, to name a couple). However, it doesn't work with subtitles where your concentration is not on the movie, but reading the text. To make matters worse, the Vietnamese language is spoken extremely fast, which means you have to read at the same speed--blink and you'll miss something. Consequently, you'd have to watch this movie about 6 times to catch everything and fully understand it.
If David Lynch had edited "The Killing Fields", this movie would be close to the end result. If I had a few free weeks to do nothing, it would be fun to re-edit this movie and put it into a more understandable plot sequence...
