Wii: Metroid Prime 3 Corruption

Firstly, let me just say this "FUCKING HELL!"

Right, now I've got that off my chest I can reveal that it's actually taken me over a week to get around to even mentioning this game on here simply because it's robbed me of my spare time

Yep, you fucking Yankarians have had this for a month or three now but we Europeens have had to wait for it because we're constantly treated like Nintendos ginger stepchildren. Do I like Metroid? The simple answer is yes but the more complicated answer would be "WOCWBCJ POBOUWCBOWUBC WUOCB*(*&("£*$!!"

Starting off at a nice leisurely pace, you meet a bunch of space spastics who are out to right the universes wrongs or some dogshit like that. In fact, the story isn't important, what is important is Metroid is great!

Graphically speaking the game is easily one of the Wii's prettiest games with a nice smooth frame rate, various lighting effects, well designed cut-scenes and an overall flair for design that really makes the game shine. A lot of love and attention has obviously been lavished by the developers which is evident when you notice the absence of repeating textures... Every room has it's own feel and at no point does it feel repetative - which is good, cos you'll be revisiting some of those sections throughout the game Graphically the game is pretty damned tasty and the only time I found myself thinking "What the fuck?" was when you could see the faces of the humans - for some reason all of the human faces look hideous.

In-game audio is almost as slick as the graphics. Whilst not being toe-tappingly superb, it compliments the gameplay nicely and some sections work better than others... There's a boss near the start of the game, I don't remember his name that requires you to "fall" down a shaft after him and free-fall fight with the fucker. The music fits perfectly and certainly gets the adrenalin pumping.

The game itself is basically a very nicely designed FPS. The computer AI is a bit weak, most adversaries are happy to eat lead rather than find cover and end of level bossesare little more than looking for a pattern and exploiting it - finding the pattern is sometimes hard but exploiting it isn't, meaning most bosses "fall" very soon after you work out what the fuck you're meant to target and in what order. There are some sections that require you to traverse parts of the map in your "morph ball" configuration which is a welcome diversion from the main game but not even slightly taxing. The main use for it seems to be as a means of hiding doors and sections, I can't help but feel they overlooked that aspect of the game.

Overall though, the only real gripe that I have with this game is knowing what/where you're heading. There's a little too much back-tracking at times, especially when the game is unclear as to what it expects of you and provides vague instruction, condemning you to do a fingertip search of an entire fucking level because you're not sure what you're looking for.

So, to summarise: The game is gorgeous, slick and well designed. It's only marred somewhat by the roaming around that some missions require and the fucktastically awful facial textures and animations... but in fairness, that's like saying you wouldn't fuck Jessica Alba because she has a zit on her forehead - ignore the zit and get the bitch ploughed.

Graphics: 9/10 - I'm sure the Wii can and will do more in the future but this game looks pretty shitting nice.
Audio: 6/10 - Good at times and forgettable the rest.
Gameplay: 8/10 - Addictive despite it's simplicity. This isn't an AI-stuffed "simulation", it's a very well designed yet simple FPS.
Overall: 9/10 - Better than the sum of it's parts. Go get it, if only to prove to naysayers that the Wii can do pretty graphics and that not every game is a party game compilation

Free... Like Nelson Mandela!

I have played the fuck out of Metroid since NES.

I stopped at Metroid Prime. How would you compare this one to it?

I never played Metroid Prime but MP3 is an excellent FPS, if a little frustrating at times... Certainly in the top 5 Wii games.
